Augh! I know it's in my head...

Okay - I have been pretty successful on the beach. In 11 weeks, I have lost 28 pounds. Yea! Now, as I near ONEderland, I find that I have stalled -- no matter how good I'm being. I haven't seen the scale move in 2 weeks. I think it is just a psychological thing because I haven't been under 200 lbs. since 1997. Everytime I begin losing weight I get to this point, stall, and quit. (of course, gaining it all back) I do not want to do that this time. I feel so much better on the beach, and I want to be healthy for my kidos! So, I've kicked up the walking and cut the cheating, but I'm still frustrated. I'm not sure I have any questions -- just needed to vent. :)

Michelle, have you tried adding weights into your exercise? Building up the muscle will kick up the metabolism and cause you to burn more calories while resting! You don't have to do anything heavy to get the benefit; low weight and high reps will do the trick. If you do this, be prepared for two things:
1. Your weight will go up for a little while. You're building mass before you start shedding unneeded mass. It's normal.
2. You might become more hungry. If you're burning more calories while resting your body is going to require a higher caloric intake.

I worked out with a personal trainer for a while, and both of those things happened to me. I didn't lose much weight, but the inches came off!

Yoga and Pilates will also do the same thing to help build up long and lean muscles.

Michelle,

Don't get discouraged. This is very normal. The weight you have lost so far is terrific and you can get past this stall. Be sure you are not skipping meals, you are where you should be with fruits and grains and that you are getting enough water.

Why don't you post your day's menu here. Maybe there is something we can help you with to get you past this stall.

Hugs,

Maggie - thanks for the words of encouragement!! I just really am frustrated right now because I see the mini-goal so close, yet feel it slipping. I do just have to remind myself that I started south beach to get healthy - not just to get thin, so everyday I am on the beach I am accomplishing my main goal!

I understand about men losing quicker -- my husband is already 35 lbs lost. He's been a great support and encouragement, but I want to lose that fast, too. :)

Thanks for the support. I know I will stick it out, and we can celebrate together when I enter ONEderland!!!

Michelle,

I know it's hard to do this, but you really have to eat MORE in order to lose weight!!

Some of your meals look very small. Does a slice of toast and peanut butter for breakfast satisfy you? Are you getting a MINIMUM of 4.5 cups of veggies each day? After 11 weeks, you should be well established on phase 2 which means you should be

Michelle, I agree with Karen, your food looks kind of sparse.

Maggie - You know, I thought I had read everything I needed to, but I guess I missed the dairy thread. I didn't realize that cheese was protein. I will really have to work on the dairy -- never been much of a milk drinker. I have taken calcium supplements since high school. I - of course- always got my ice cream in. LOL I will try out the smoothies -- that my fill my milkshake craving. :)

Karen - I'll try to eat more - that sounds so odd, but I understand that my body needs it.

Thank you so much for the guidance. I really would have quit by now if I didn't have this board to lead and cheer me on!

Maggie - Thanks for the smoothie recipes!! They are so good -- I can hardly believe that they don't count as my sweet treat for the day. The scale still won't budge, but I'm enjoying more dairy and trying to eat more throughout the day. I know from the past that I'll get past this and lose in a big way if I stick to it. As long as the scale doesn't go up, I'm still very encouraged. :)
