I haven't started the diet yet - waiting for the 1st 6 weeks of post-partum to be over. I had been on SBD Phase I before, right after I stopped breastfeeding my first-born. Now that I have a 2nd one, I'm anxious to lose weight. Those pesky 15 lbs!

There's been some debate of whether breastfeeding moms should go on Phase I or not. Irrelevantly, I don't want to deprive my baby of any nutrients and will probably start with Phase II, which is VERY NEW to me, I've never tried it before. So here are a couple of questions:

1. In the book it is always assumed that you go through Ph 1 first, and then move to Ph2. Will my weight loss be affected if I circumvent Phase 1 and start with Ph2?

2. In the book it says that in Ph2, you can start introducing good carbs, such as brown rice, legumes, etc. however, none of meal plans for 14 days have either brown rice or legumes. Why is that?

thanks!

Hi & welcome!

You're absolutely right....Nursing moms should start in phase 2.

About a month ago I also started straight into Phase 2 as a nursing mom. I think that it has been a little more difficult because I never got a great hold on the cravings but for the most part sticking to the plan hasn't been difficult. So far I have lost 15.5 pounds but I also have a LOT to lose (I went from 322 to 306.5) so I know that amount of weight isn't realistic for most nursing moms. Maggie has said that you should lose more than a 1.5 to 2 pounds a week as a nursing mom so I would try to aim for that. Also, remember to get in extra dairy as well! :o)

Good luck and know that you aren't the only nursing mom on the board. :o)
