Steel Cut Oats

I just tried steel cut oats for the first time this morning for breakfast and it's yummy with a bit of salt and Smart Balance!! I'll be having that a lot more often. It's a nice alternative to regular cream of wheat.
I never knew about it until I read about it on this board.

That's a good idea making the recommended serving. I cut it in half to two servings and ate both servings (1.5 cups of water and 1/2 cup of oats).
I hope that wasn't too much in one meal. But it was delicious.
HI there!
You mentioned that you ate cream of wheat but I am not sure if that is legal. Maybe a CL can comment.
Glad you like the oats. They are good!
Lisa.
Actually, I only ate cream of wheat once while I was on SBD, so I hope it's legal. Good question.
But I'll definitely stick with the steel cut oats from now on to be on the safe side.
Cream of wheat is not a good choice since it only has 1 gram of fiber per serving. Oatmeal (long cooking or steel cut)
You're welcome! Also, this recipe for baked oatmeal is really tasty too (I have some in my freezer for a quick breakfast)!
Baked Oatmeal
1/2 cup canola oil
2/3 cup splenda
2 eggs
3 cups dry oatmeal
1 to 2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup fat free milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
Wisk oil, splenda, and eggs. Add cinn, baking powder, salt, vanila and wisk again. Add oatmeal then milk and mix. Spray 9X9 cooking pan with non-stick spray. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
Makes 8 servings.
Ah hah! That makes more sense. I didn't even know there was a sugar-free maple syrup.
It seems like it would still be too high in natural sugar ... and I'm losing so weight so slowly that it might be a good idea for me to skip that for now.
I'm also avoiding things like peanutbutter, even though I know it's allowed in limited quantities.
