I eat a lot of oatmeal. I like to mix old fashion with steel cut. I add Blueberries somedays, vanilla others, and for a treat, some days I will add about an ounce of dark chocolate.
I hear a lot on this board about "steel cut" oatmeal. What is that? Is it something I have to go to a specialty helath food store for or is it located somewhere in the grocery store in a different area than the breakfast oatmeals? I have used plain "Quaker" type regular oatmeal on occaision but am curious about the steel cut. Also, does it taste different?

Uh oh. Does that mean that Quaker Instant Oatmeal - Weight Control isn't good?
It's got 6 grams of fiber and only 1 gram of sugar (sweetened with Splenda and non-nutritive sweeteners).
Hi,
There has been some controversy over this product.
H'mm, very interesting. Well, I don't eat it that often. I just had it on Sunday. So, I guess once in a little while isn't bad.
But I also have the steel cut variety and can go with that.
Those additions sounds really good - especially the dark chocolate. That takes care of your sweet treat and grains in one shot.
I like it with a bit of soy milk and Smart Balance.

Hi,
Most grocery stores carry steel cut oats or Irish Oats.
