My challenging day
9
Thu, 11-16-2006 - 7:51pm

I'm mostly venting here. I got a call this morning from my sister who is in transition between moves and temporarily staying with my mother who lives a few miles from me. She has a very high-powered demanding job, a husband who works strange shifts, and a one-year old. She was stuck for baby help today and asked for my assistance.

So, I rearranged my schedule (I work from home so it wasn't too hard) and left for the day to babysit. Sitting at my mother's house at lunchtime, I started to get hungry. I opened all the cabinets and the refrigerator and didn't find anything *friendly*.

So, first I had some raisins. Then I had a small frozen pizza and some salad. I figured there were worse choices and I would have a nice, big salad with the pizza, so I'd be okay. Wouldn't you know that the only dressing she had contained 5 grams of sugar! At least she had some diet ginger ale.

I really had planned on a very SB friendly day, but didn't have time to pack it all up. So, tonight I'm right back on track and tomorrow is a new day.....

Hi Karen,

I work from home also and let me tell you that is a plus on this plan I consider myself blessed because it leaves me time to cook and plan my meals and have healthy food available when hunger approaches...not to metion be available to my girls after school - but it was not always that way, your sister is lucky you were able to kick in for her!

First of all, you were a good aunt and sister today. Your choices did not seem so bad. Tomorrow is another day. The plan is flexible so you can have a day like today. Get back on track and forget about it. That's what you would tell us.

Thanks girls! Yes, Luly it is great to work from home where I can have control over what I eat and it also affords me the time to prepare things I might not otherwise have the time for.

I forgot to mention that the baby was sick - so that's why I was called into duty. In addition to watching him all day, I had to take him to the doctor and pick up a prescription. My youngest DD is 12, and I forgot how challenging it is to do all that with a baby - in and out of the carseat, waiting in the pharmacy with baby on hip and diaper bag slung over my shoulder. Whew, what a day!!

Yup, right back on track is the course of action to take!

Thanks Kim. You know, its funny....when I'm home working, my eating is fine. My willpower is challenged when the girls get home from school and I start to think about making dinner. Afternoons are my worst time of day.

I hate it when that happens! When I'm on my own I generally stay on track but sometimes you get stuck in places and situations where there are NO options. I think we just have to let it go and move on.

I am going to my book club tonight and it's ALWAYS a challenge. There is something that is SBD-friendly, but I have to sit for hours with chips and cookies right in front of me and I just can't do it!

You can do it! Move your seat away from the chips and sit by the celery sticks!! Go to you club with a positive attitude...you'll be SO proud of yourself that you did!!

I'll do my best Karen. I am weakest at parties because I see all this food that looks really good. Plus our book club usually lasts about four hours so I am very hungry!
