Have you ever tried them? and do you like them? The ones made from cauliflower. I'm making ground turkey meat loaf and thought I would try those with it and see what the kids thought. I just don't want to do if there isn't a good opinion on them. TIA!
I love them. I've never used an official recipe from this site. I just take a bag of frozen cauliflower and cook it until it's really soft, drain it, add SmartBalance and mash it with a hand-held potato masher. I then add skim milk and either rf shredded cheddar cheese or grated parmesan cheese plus salt & pepper to taste. Really yummy! Of course, I have no idea how picky your kids are... my 5 year old and 2 year old won't touch them with a 10-foot pole. ;-)
Okay, well I guess I will be the dissenting opinion here. LOL. I love cauliflower so I decided to try the recipe in the SBD book & I couldn't stand them! I literally couldn't finish them. I would have much rather eaten them steamed with a little butter or LF cheese on them. So there's my 2 cents!
Everyone in my house loves them, kids included - I use the recipe straight from the book but I usually add some roasted garlic or various fresh herbs. For the kids I often throw in a drop off food coloring (orange at Halloween, green for St. Patrick's Day, etc.) and they think that is so cool.
I never tried to pass them off as mashed "potatoes" though. I don't really think they are that similar - good, in their own way, but not really so much the same you'd fool the kids. We just call it mashed cauliflower.
Hey thanks everyone! I think I will do it the way you guys do and see how it goes. As far as passing them off as mashed potatoes, I didn't think I could but thought it would be a nice try!!! I already know that my 2 and 4 year old wont even give them a second glance because they are the pickiest toddlers known on the planet!! :) Maybe even my 7 year old. I do know that my 12 year old who is 130 pounds and 5'4 will eat ANYTHING I make SB or not. He even ate the tomatoe soup with white beans and carrots last night! So maybe he will give these a try. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Luly
Asiago is a sharp grated parmesan type of cheese.
I like the spice of it all and add worschesterire (sp) sauce too.
