Hello! I was so excited to find this mssg board and grateful for all the comments and recipies that are sure to help! This is my 2and time doing SB, the first time I lost 19lbs and then got pg w/ #3!! LOL
So, here I am again 2wks into ph2, lost 14lbs in ph1 and then gained 2back immediately when I started ph2. :( I have only lost 1lb since starting ph2, and am wondering if that's normal? I am not exercising, but I am nursing a 6month old, so I should be losing more, right?
Anyway, I lent my book to someone else so I am wondering if I am overdoing the squash and beans after reading somewhere else that they are considered starches? I love squash, both summer and winter varieties. Can someone clear up which ones count as starches, the beans too?
Also, I found a great recipe for pumpkin pudding made w/ ff evap. milk and splenda and was enjoying that for dessert till I read that pumpkin is a starch also? So how many servings starch are we allowed and what's considered a serving? I am so confused now.

Hi Liz,
I'm sure one of the CLs will jump in, but in Phase 2 you should be having two to three servings of starches/grains per day. Pumpkins and winter squashes (but not spaghetti squash) count as starches. I am not sure of the portion size for a serving, but I would guess 1/2 c. Spaghetti squash is a veggie and is unlimited. Summer squash is a veggie and is also unlimited.
Beans also count as a veggie, but as they are calorie dense it's suggested that you limit them to about 1/2 c per day.
Welcome to the boards! Jump in if you have any other questions.
Hey CLs, how'd I do??
Deb

And jsut a reminder of the nursing mom requirements.
Hi Liz,
Welcome!
Thanks Deb for the veggie info and to kimmie and cathy for the breastfeeding info! Yikes, I feel like such a dummy-I did the first part of the diet from memory and didn't even think about it affecting the breastfeeding (duh). I figured the meat and veggies would be a huge nutritional improvement over my cocoa krispies for breakfast, peanut butter crackers for lunch, frozen dinners lol. Makes sense, the 1/2-1lb a week but what a bummer. :( Hope I can make my goal by August, I am a bridesmaid in two weddings!! ACK!
I do have a couple more questions though, (deb?) am I understanding that the 3 servings is starches AND grains, not 3 starches, 3 grain? Sorry if it sounds "dense", I just want to be sure.
Any other nursing moms, can you tell me if this is enough? I drink 2 full glasses (I think that's @ 10 oz apiece) of soymilk and 2-3 servings grain ( wheat bread or oatmeal cereal) a day. I tend to gain instead of lose if I increase either of those, but is this enough for the baby?
Hi,
Yes, you can have 3 grains and 3 fruits.
