anyone for mini-goals?

Help, please!

I need to lay out some goals, dates, rewards, where I think I can be when, etc. I need some mini goals here!

How do y'all go about this? I rewarded my phase one success with a new over the shoulder tote for card-making supplies. DH rewarded himself by going to Dairy Queen. Let's all shake our heads and wag our fingers at him!!! Tsk. Tsk.

How do you all (again with the you all) break down your big job into little attainable chunks?

Thanks!
Teresa

Erin,

I'm not an expert -- but your goal sounds very doable!

dh and I have a weekend away w/o kiddies coming up -- March 23. Its only four weeks away or so. The numbers goals get me, because its a bit unpredictable. I would like to be 175 by then, but I don't think I will sustain 2 lb/wk loss. I'm thinking of setting the weight goal at 175, but have another goal, have 20 serious workouts by then (since I've been an exercise slacker). That way, I have control over one of the goals.

But I tend to over think things!

My first number that I'm really excited about is 163, my last pre-pregnancy weight. Twenty pounds away. Twenty weeks? Fifteen? Ten? I'm no good at this! My birthday is approx. 4 months away -- 163 by then? But I think I'd rather have broken into the 150's by then!

Sorry for rambling -- I started the post because I'm confused!!

I think for sure my goal will be 20 serious workouts (2 fifteen minute miles, followed by fifteen minute hand weight video) before the get away with dh. Reward: pedicure (*great* idea, sure to wear sandals that weekend).

Okay. One mini-goal set! thank you! Good luck with yours!

My first mini goal is 20 lbs lost. Got about 6 or 7 pounds to get there...the goal, new curtains for my bedroom!!!

I don't have a clue how much I will lose and how fast/slow. I've never really seriously dieted before, so I don't know how my body will react to this WOE. So, I'm trying to just go with the flow and hope that by the time vacation gets here...June and July...that I'll be alot slimmer and feel alot healthier. I don't even have another reward set after I reach the 20 pounds yet...am still thinking on it. DH wants a new lense for his camera once he reaches 20 pounds, tho. Guess the next mini goal will be another 20 pounds!!!

'morning Teresa!

Great idea about the mini-goals..

I think you can approach it 2 ways...1) by numbers: so at a certain weight or so many inches lost or achieved or 2) by successful workouts or weeks..

Sometimes it's easier to say 'after 3 successful weeks, I will treat myself to a new_____' rather than waiting to lose another 10 pounds or 3 inches at the waist which might take longer than we want (especially if you are impatient as I am!)

started with a mini-goal being each 10 pounds lost, but given that in week 2 of phase one, I only lost .5 and nothing since then, this could take a while..So...I'm not sure what my NEW mini-goals are yet....but like you, I know I need some!

have a great day,

t

New curtains are exciting!! And you are almost there!

I have a hard time keeping my attention focused for as long as it takes me to lose 20 pounds. The last time i lost weight on SBD, no matter how hard I worked i lost 5 pounds a month. And i became very happy with that. It was steady and i'm sure it would have kept up, if I had kept up!! i didn't set any mini rewards to go with my mini goals last time and I think that was a mistake!

Good luck!!

Tia,

You lay it out so clearly, that's exactly what I was trying to say! Two types of goals. The workouts per week, or really perfect eating for a certain number of days, etc., those type of goals can be more controlled than the scale number.

I agree, my first 10 pounds may take awhile -- and i lost 9 in phase one! yikes!

I'm in no real hurry with my mini-goals. I keep telling myself that this is a whole new way of eating is for life and I'm committed to that. Of course, life happens, vacations happen and there will be times that it will be hard to eat completely with SB friendly foods, but we're (DH and I) going to do our best to stick to this plan.

I only hope our budget can keep up with these big rewards!!! Maybe the next mini-goal should be a shopping spree for some new clothes!!! The scales are still moving for me almost everyday, but I'm only just now starting to feel a little different when I put my jeans on. And I've worn the same size jeans for years now...so I would love to be able to go and buy a smaller size!!!

Teresa, my goal for February was to workout 6 days a week really hard (in "the zone" like Oprah first talked about in her book with Bob Greene) but that was before I lost 2 weeks to a bad back. But I'm planning to finish up the month still trying to achieve this goal. Good for the heart as well as the butt, ya know?! ;-)

I agree that setting goals based on lost pounds doesn't work for me. I'd rather focus on exercise or achieving a certain number of days without "treating" with non-SBD foods. Maybe that will be my mini-goal for March, no treating. Hmmmm....

No, haven't given myself any concrete rewards -- I'm not good on holding back on something if I want it and can afford it, so waiting to get a pedicure until I've achieve some goal really isn't my style. I guess just accomplishing the goal is reward enough. Geez, my mom and dad would be so proud...
