Hi all
Im trying to get prepared for serving Easter Dinner. I have already got the BOOO's on do we have to go the South Beach house? Any suggestions on making the dinner happy for all. My husbands side of family are very pie, white potato, fresh corn and WHITE, sqwishy dinner roll people...Im thinking...Ham..maple sweet potatos, olives, pickles, veggie platter, cracker/cheese, maybe a whole wheat dinner roll..
I just know that Im going to hear it from all....should I bother making there "crap" food? I will be sooo tempted to nibble and then eat it...hope for leftovers and then chow it down the next day when Im home...OR...Should I just say that this is a rare dinner and make it, eat it and get it over with and move on with my life...
Just looking for some insite...
Thanks

Background info..was 166 Jan 1st...today 145!!! YEAH! LOVE THE BEACH..

OK,

Here's my take on holidays -- if I am really going to do this for life, I have *hundreds* of holidays in front of me. So I just decide if *this holiday* is one which I really want to cheat for. And I have that mind set going into every holiday. I give myself the right to cheat. Once I give myself permission to cheat if I want to, that's usually enough. Then I don't really have an urge to cheat. It's when I get into the mindset of "I absolutely can't have that" that I go crazy and want to eat everything in sight. For me, it's almost 100% mental.

Personally Easter dinner isn't my favorite holiday dinner so I won't have a problem holding back. We'll be eating at my MIL's and I will probably bring at least 2 South Beach friendly side dishes (asparagus & fauxtatoes). I will have some ham, a tiny serving of my MIL's mashed potatoes if I have the urge, and probably asparagus and salad. No roll (really, are soft squishy rolls worth a stall or gain? I don't think so. Ditto with corn, unless it's fresh corn on the cob at 4th of July). If she has key lim pie, I'll have a small slice cause it's one of my favorites. If she has cake or another pie, I probably won't have any -- I'm not a big sweets person.

Now, if you are in charge of serving Easter dinner to everyone, you get to make the rules. Here's what I would do. Cook what you want to cook that's SBD friendly (lean ham, fauxtatoes, asparagus, broccoli salad, etc.) and then allow other people to bring their favorite side dish (their famous green bean casserole or mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, dessert, etc.). Then depending on how you serve (buffet from the kitchen, buffet in the d.r., or family style at the table) if you have room, put you dishes all in the same space and scootch what everyone else brought to another end. Once you hit the area where their stuff is, just stop putting anything on your plate and go to your seat.

These are just a few ideas on how to handle holiday food in general. I'll let you know if anything else comes to me, and I'm sure other folks will chime in. The point is, don't use this as an *excuse* to go crazy. And don't let your family get the better of you either. You're moniker says it all: you need to do this for you.

Personally, I would make a SBD friendly meat and a few veggies. Then I would make some of my favorites or allow others to bring their favorite dish like a pot luck or something. However, I've always eaten whatever I want on the holidays. I don't pig out like I used to, but their are some foods to me that will never taste as good if I make them "legal." I would put the SBD foods on my plate first and then fill in with small portions of the other dishes. I probably shouldn't be doing this, but it has worked well for me in the past.
