Hi Everyone,

I am still around, but my work schedule has become hectic. I have been traveling a bit, which has made SB WOE a bit more of a challenge for me. Don't misunderstand, when I am in my routine I find SB very easy. Being away from home in unfamiliar places just makes it a bit more of a challenge. That being said, I'm looking for recommendations on Cereal Bars. I have tried the Kraft / SB bars and - well -- don't like them at all. I only like Chewy breakfast bars (not hard and crunchy). I picked up a box os the TLC Trail mix bars, but I am not sure if they are "legal". Here is the information:

Kashi Trail Mix –
Ingredients:
Kashi® Seven Whole Grains & Sesame™ Blend (Whole: Hard Red Winter Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley, Triticale, Long Grain Brown Rice, Buckwheat, Sesame Seeds), Whole Almonds, Brown Rice Syrup, Soy Protein Isolate, Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Soy Grits, Chicory Root Fiber, Raisins, Sunflower Seeds, Evaporated Cane Juice Syrup, Cranberries, Vegetable Glycerin, Corn Flour, Honey, Rice Starch, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Oat Fiber, Evaporated Salt, Natural Flavors, Molasses, Soy Lecithin, Peanut Flour, Whey, Annatto Color.

I have also been looking for the Uncle Sams cereal bars, but have been unable to find them (yet). Are these considered legal?

Also, if anyone has a good recipe for a homemade bar, that would work too. ???

The guidelines for cereal or breakfast bars is that they should only be for occaisional use (1x/week) and contain no trans fats and no high fructose corn syrup. They would be counted as one grain serving.

I went through some old posts and found the following 'approved' breakfast bars:

South Beach Diet/Kraft cereal bars

Atkins Morning Start breakfast bar, Triple Berry flavor

Kashi Chewy Granola Bars (not the Go Lean variety)

Thank you for the information. I am pretty sure that the Kashi bars that I purchased were the TLC, not the goLean. I think that they will help out on travel days....as long as I only travel one day per week! :-}

I noticed that the poster of the breakfast bar recipe never posted a review. Have you tried them by any chance?

No, I didn't try the recipe myself. The poster actually did review them. Re-read the first paragraph in her post. I think she tweaked the ingredient list a bit and thought she would make a few changes the next time.

When you have the cereal bars, try to get some veggies and dairy too. V8 and a glass of milk or yogurt would make it a more wholesome meal.

Just a suggestion that has helped me before, I have followed SBD while going to school and having only a few minutes to grab breakfast.

Thanks for the tip. I have recently investigated various SBD friendly muffin recipes, and I just need to get my act together and stop by the grocery store to pick up some ingredients.

I love yogurt -- so I would love to try your idea, but I have absolutely no idea what "brain bud" is. I read it 3 times...still can't figure it out. Can you tell me what it is?

Hi,

A bran bud is a variety of Kellogg's All Bran.

LOL....

I had never heard of that cereal before! I'm not a huge cereal person, but I would probably do better with it in yogurt! I will keep my eyes peeled for it.

Thanks again.
