Today is my 1st day of Phase 2. Just have a couple ?s regarding hot cereal. I know instant oatmeal is generally a no-no.
However, I was wondering about the Quaker Oatmeal Weight Control kind. It is sweetened w/ Splenda - stats:
Serving size: 45g - this is 1 packet - too big of a serving?
Fat 3g
Total Carb 29g
Dietary Fiber 6g
Soluble Fiber 4g
Sugars 1g
Protein 7g
The 1st ingredient is whole grain rolled oats, but I do see oat flour in there and something called whey protein isolate(?).
Also, another hot cereal I used to eat before I started SB is Kashi Go Lean Hearty All Natural - I don't think it's exactly oatmeal but has other grains. Stats:
Serving size: 40g (1 packet)
Fat 2g
Total Carb 26g
Fiber 5g (Soluble 3g/Insoluble 2g)
Sugars 7g
Protein 8g
Looks like it is a mixture of whole oats, brown rice, rye, hard red winter wheat, triticale, buckwheat, barley and sesame seeds.
Thank you in advance (again)!

My favorite hot cereal is Arrowhead Mills 7 Grain & Flax--it's really yummy, and only takes 10 minutes (as opposed to steel cut oats, which takes about 45). The Quaker weight control kind looks close to legal, but not sure there. Looks like the sugar in the Kashi one is a bit high.

Instant oatmeal is discouraged because some of the fiber had to be removed in order to make it faster cooking, and then it's added back in with things like oat fiber. The best choice is some type of slow cooking oats, which I like to microwave for three minutes with milk and peanut butter. Steel cut oats are also highly reccomended, but I haven't tried those yet.
If you're looking for ways to jazz up your oatmeal here's a thread filled with ideas:

If you are looking for something that cooks quicker than oatmeal and is more similar in texture to instant - you may want to check out oat bran cereal. Its a favorite in our house because it cooks quickly like instant and isn't as grainy (my kids say its not as "scratchy in my throat") as the long-cooking oats.
This is my favorite:

Thanks to you both! Cathy, I believe it was you or one of the other moderators who mentioned cooking steel cut oatmeal in the crockpot - would you mind giving me a quick rundown of how to do that? I saw your Irish oatmeal quick soak explanation - is it the same method? I bought a bag of the Bob's Red Mill brand of 5 Grain Rolled Whole Grain cereal, which I think is OK to use and I'll microwave on work days, but I'd really like to try the steel cut oats also.
MichaelAnne, I read your story BTW, and think it is incredible. Just wanted to say you look amazing!
Yes, I used to cook steel-cut oats in the crockpot but now I just use the quick soak method.
