I am started to get discouraged!! I think I gained again this week. Not sure, our weigh in is tomorrow but I sure feel fatter, flabbier... ugh, just it's so upsetting.

I wonder if I am just eating TOO much? I don't know what to do but another week of gain (last week was up 2 lbs) is just going to make me crazy!!!

I've been at this for 4.5 months now (started second week in Feb, I am on week 6 of SB (week 4 of phase 2) and I am down overall 30 lbs but it's amazing how quickly I adjusted to my new "look" 30 lbs lighter and feel just as blah and flubby as ever!!!

When you get to this point you have to be prepared for the weight loss to be MUCH MUCH slower. Its totally normal. Most people will not lose every week at this stage. I had a pattern of losing 1-2lbs one week, then none for 1 or 2 weeks, then 1 or 2lbs, then none for 1 or 2 weeks. You also won't notice and "feel" a difference on a weekly basis. Its kind of more gradual than that. I know I would go a month or more without a change in the way my clothes fit and then all of a sudden - whoosh - one day literally over night everything was too big. So you won't get that instant gratification on a daily/weekly basis anymore. You have to just settle into a pattern of looking at the over all picture over longer periods of time. It took me a year to lose 67lbs, which is a normal, average, healthy amount of time.

Jennie,

I'm not sure you're eating enough. When you post meal plans I think you are often missing some of the required foods. You should be getting 4.5 cups of veggies (MINIMUM) per day, 2 cups of dairy, 3 grain servings, and 3 fruit servings.

I know it is hard to break the mind-set that we need to starve ourselves to lose weight, but it is just the opposite. We need to feed our bodies in order to keep our metabolisms moving.

Also, are you exercising? You may want to step up any exercise efforts.

Good luck!

Exercise: 25 push ups, 50-100 sit ups (depending on time and exhaustion when I get to them) and 30 minutes or so of cardio (dancing with the kids every day, same song, over and over and over!!)

Eating: I drank two glasses of milk today and I think I feel better. I made a ton of chicken grilled for lunch and enough for leftovers so that when it was snacktime, I ate 2 more tenderloins and it was good.

I am getting at least 4 cups of veggies a day, usually about 2 grain servings and yesterday I did have 2 servings of fruit (2 oranges).

I lost the first 12 lbs 1/2 - 1 lb a week over 11 weeks (there was a first week of a 5 lb loss when I cut out cokes entirely and then a 4 lb loss when I had salmonella (remember the contaminated PB????).

I am totally ok with a slower loss rate... but gaining 2 lbs two weeks in a row will MAKE ME MAD!!! lol I just hope if that's the case, that I can channel it somewhere positive - but even so, the scale we've been suing for 4 months is BROKEN so now we're using a different one so WHO KNOWS what it'll say!!!

I hear your frustration! If you like, why not start journaling for eating in the iJournal section below? Maybe we can find something to 'tweak' to help you break the plateau.

Just a quick suggestion since I went through something similar last time around. Eating healthy was great, but it was not the "change" for me, so I finally gave up. I really like this way of eating and believe in it's pricipals, so that is why I came back to it. For me, exercise seems to be the biggest key. I don't seem to be losing a ton now, but I am finally seeing results. Last time around, I sounded a lot like you. I was doing cardio type exercise for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week and seemed to be going nowhere size-wise. This time around, I am doing my stationary bike, in intervals a lot like what was posted about treadmill walking. I pace myself for 5 minutes, then do 2 minutes as fast as possible, give myself 1 minute of slow pace and repeat. I do this 4 times, and then cool down for 4 minutes for a total of 20 minutes. I'm almost to the point that I need to up these intervals, which times out well, since school's out and I can really devote the time to it, but it really seems to be working. After the bike I'm doing weights for my arms 15-20 reps of 10 different arm exercises, working the different muscles. Then I'm doing 20 regular and 20 side situps on my exercise ball. Just this week I've added Cathy's lower ab situps, since that area is the one I can not seem to shrink. Hopefully that will help, otherwise that area may end up being where I need the nip and tuck, lol. As it gets easier, I either change it up a little to make it more difficult or add more reps/time. The amazing thing for me was, I'm in pretty fair shape, but it was a lot more difficult of an exercise regimine for me than I thought it would be.

It's just a thought, and I'm really not sure yet that the right exercise combo will end up being the answer, but I'm feeling a lot better about it than last time around.
