Ok I don't really like fruit!
I can eat some at breakfast, like today we had sliced canteloupe with really good German wheat toast and peanut butter. But to get my second serving? If and when I go to a 3rd? If I eat yougurt that has fruit in it, does that count? Probably not! I've done the strawberries at night dipped in semi-sweet chocolate but I can't afford to buy that many strawberries to do that every night. And we do the berry smoothies for breakfast sometimes, but other than that I just don't like fruit! Any ideas?
Also, storage question. I had to throw away half a pound of strawberries and a pint of blackberries the other day because of mold Is there a good way to protect these babies? So expensive it kills me!!!!
Thanks!
Tara

Hi Tara,
I buy frozen berries when they are on sale and also when I buy fresh berries if I won't be able to use them before getting fuzzy I'll also freeze them.
You can count fruit you put in yogurt yourself. I will take 1 cup berries and mix it into 1 cup non-fat, plain yogurt (adding splenda as well of course) Then this takes care of both a fruit and dairy serving. I think Cathy means you just can't count the fruit in PREMADE yogurt. If you add it yourself - it counts.
How about baked apples for desert? Core an apple, stuff it with some cinnamon, spelnda, drizzle on a little sf syrup and bake. Top with a dollop of cool whip. Or cobbler - we take fresh peaches, nectarines, pears or berries, slice them and mix them with a tsp cornstarch and some splenda. Put in a ramekin and top with a mixture of oatmeal, ww flour and a little smart balance (makes a crumb topping) Bake 30 min. You can put fruit on top of ff/sf pudding, add it to jello, etc. You can make a yogurt "dip" (flavor some yogurt w/vanilla, splenda, cinnamon, etc.) and dip your fruit - my kids love this - I cut up the fruit and put it on skewers. And a more "grown up" treat - my family is Italian, so peaches and wine was a summer evening staple at our house. Slice some peaches into a wine glass, pour over your favorite wine. Use a skewer or fork to eat the peach slices - plus it flavors the wine. SOOO refreshing and yummy on a summer evening!
Try LOTS of fruits - its hard to believe you don't like ANY - cherries (many varieties, white, bing, etc.), plums (again MANY varieties), pears - try them all Bosc taste different than Bartlett and Asian pears taste totally different, kiwis, grapes, etc. Then there is all the citrus - oranges, tangerines, pomelos, grapefruit, kumquats, etc.
Fruit for me is about my absolute favorite food, but that is probably because I have a HUGE sweet tooth. I've always thought of fruit as desert. I grew up with my grandparents owning a ranch/vineyard and we were always running in the orchard picking fresh apples, peaches, pears, plums or finding fresh berries, etc. So I lived on fruit as a kid.

Mmm. Ok you sold me on the wine and peaches. I'm a wine girl. (Note the glass) do you use red or white? I've made my own sangria w/ fresh fruit and red wine and I love that but I am staying away from that for now because a) it packs a punch and b) there's also brandy and triple sec in it plus I use soda instead of club soda.
I don't not like fruit I guess as much as I'm just not very into it by itself. Like to go eat an apple with peanut butter, ech. All that does is wet my appetite to be honest with you. I like baked apples or cobblers though so I will try your suggestions.
And I will just have to make some of my own yougurt!
Thanks!
Tara
Thank you Cathy!
I've never been a pear person, but that salad sounds good. What kind of cheese, like a goat cheese or something?
I will start freezing my berries! ;) I bought some more yesterday as one of the stores had a BOGO sale on both strawberries and rasberries.
Question on the bananas: If you eat a big one like that at once and it's two servings of fruit, is that any worse for keeping your blood sugar level than eating two servings separate? I have real issues with feeling my blood sugar rise and fall so I'm trying to keep it as level as I can (one of the reasons I had started SB again).
Is the peanut butter cup the thing with the fudsicle and the peanut butter? I remember those from last time I did SB and I keep meaning to ask what the recipe is. I loved those!
Tara
Hey there: I just wanted to chime in about the salad. I love putting cut up pear in my salad, with a little LF Swiss cheese. I usually use Good Seasons dressing, but I make the low-fat version. I use olive oil with it... and throw in 1 teaspoon of dijon mustard (in the dressing). It lasts for a while and is yummy.
Good luck!
You can use either red or white. In the region my grandparents are from, its almost always red. I've done it in white too and I like it, but my grandparents would probably disown me LOL!
