Not losing- Feeling Depressed
| Fri, 06-22-2007 - 11:14am |
I have been on phase 2 for about 2 months now and have not lost any weight. Phase 1 went great- lost 6 lbs. but gained them back in Phase 2. I am eating multigrain bread 2-3x a day, 2 glasses of lowfat milk, 2-3 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and it is not working. What am I doing wrong? It is so frustrating and I am started to feel depressed.
Please help!!!

Hi,
Give us your full menu for a typical day.
Here it is:
Breakfast- 1 slice of multi-grain with 2 slices of tomatoes with 1-2 slices of provolone cheese and a small piece of advocado.
snack: fresh fruit cut up melons cataloupes and a few grapes.
Lunch: salad that consist of lettuce, cucumbers, red peppers, tomatoes, chic peas, kidney beans, a sprinkle of parmesean cheese, 1 tsp. of sunflower seeds and cranberries. I used balsamic vinegar dressing that is already prepared so I doubt that it is fat-free.
snack: fruit or multi-grain crackers (3) topped with regular peanut butter (1 tablespoon)
Dinner: protein chicken or fish with veggies and 1 slice of multi-grain bread topped with peanut butter.
snack: 1 or 2 sugar-free fudgesicles or a cup of green tea.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks a bunch!

Hi Chami,
I don't understand how you could gain 6 pounds back from the menu you posted.
Hi there: I am SO NOT an expert, but I had a few questions/thoughts...
1) You said "regular" peanut butter. Is this all-natural peanut butter or actual regular peanut butter? The only PB allowed on South Beach is the all-natural stuff.
2) You put cranberries in your salad. Are these real ones or dried? I used to put dried cranberries in my salad and LOVED THEM. Unfortunately, I can't have them anymore on SB. They are full of sugar.
3) Does the multi-grain bread follow SB guidelines? I don't know much about multi-grain. I buy whole wheat because it's easier for me! (Same with the crackers...)
4) You mentioned that you have been getting 1-2 servings of dairy each day, but I didn't see any on your menu. Remember that a dairy serving is ONLY milk or yogurt. Honestly, I think I drop more when I remember to get this in every day.
Not sure if any of this is contributing, which is why I am asking. Other than that, I think your menu looks great.
After looking at your menu and post a few things jump out at me...
1) the PB issue that the PP addressed.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I do need more veggies and I will have to cut out the cranberries because yes they are the dried ones. I eat the natual PB at home and regular at work so I will have to cut that out too. I will see how my week goes. Keep the suggestions coming I truly appreciate it.

In agreement with what everyone else said - but I'd also highly suggest adding exercise. I personally believe its a 50/50 thing (half exercise/half eating healthy) I don't believe one truly works without the other. I think you can only get so far by taking a one-sided approach to weight loss.
Don't get me wrong, some have lost without exercise and I understand that everyone is different. But the potential boost to your metabolism from exercise is just too big a factor to be overlooked.
