Anyone 50 and over

I just turned 50 and wanted to see if there was anyone else here with diet struggles and what you are doing about it. I would love to chat with others in the same boat. Sometimes it's hard to talk to someone 20-30 yrs younger when it seems that they can lose easier.
Tennie

Hey Tennie,
I'm not quite to 50 yet, but I feel I qualify. I'll be 44 at the end of the year. This is the first time I've ever truly 'dieted' in my life. And sometimes I feel like this would have been so much easier to do if I had done it 10 or 15 years ago. I think with age comes a slower metabolism and I think I'm fighting against that. I'm still seeing some results, but weight loss has really slowed down alot lately and I'm trying to figure out what I can do to get it going again. DH & I started SBD on January 9 of this year. Since then, we've each lost over 25 pounds, which is fabulous!!! We're both ecstatic over it. We feel better than we have in years and it's so nice to go shopping and buy a smaller size!!! However, I still have a long way to go to reach my final goal weight. DH & I are in it for the long haul, but sometimes it seems like it might take years to get there. Along with that, DH & I both have health problems, so that complicates things. Still, we're not giving up. We still hope to one day reach our weight loss goals, but it may take a longer than we once thought it would.

Hi Tennie-
Close. I will be 49 this November. I have struggled all my life with my weight. Four years ago I got down to a weight of 145 which was not skinny but good for me. Then life happened, my mom got sick with cancer and has since died, I had two 16 year old nieces die a month apart under totally different circumstances, a friend of mine died at the age of 50 from cancer and my marriage broke up. I am now 175 lbs. I am totally disgusted with myself for letting that happen and I find it is much harder this time to get the weight off. I am eating healthy again though and feel better even if the scale is not going down as I would like. I started going to the gym and even though I feel intimidated by my weight I just put on my make believe blinders and go do my thing. It gonna be a long road but one I must commit to. I want to feel and look again the way I did four years ago. You are certainly not alone here Tennie, are you finding it hard to get the results you want?
Mary
I turned 50 in December and have had an extremely difficult time losing weight for the past few years. I've done many diets and will lose about 10 pounds and then stall-for weeks and weeks and weeks-then I give up and eat what I want to eat and gain everything back plus a few pounds more. I was told last year when I went for my "yearly" that I was starting to go through the change which would make it more difficult to lose weight.
I started SB in April and lost 10 pounds on P1-I couldn't believe it-I never lose that quick. Then I started P2 and did not lose any more weight- got off track and put back on 5 pounds. I started over on P2 week 1 (1 fruit and 1 bread)this past week and I've taken off the 5 pounds.
I think SB is very healthy and I feel like I can live this way. I am now working out 3-4 times a week doing cardio and strength training. I believe this will increase my metabolism and I should start seeing results.
I have found this website to be very supportive in helping me with my struggles.
Good luck and if you'd like to chat I can give you my email. Kim
Hi Kim, I would love to have your email so we can chat more. You sound a lot like me, I started with the sb diet about a year ago and have stayed with it since then. I lost on ph 1 and a few lbs on ph 2 but stalled and like you I got off track and gained it all back. I did cut back on my calories and drink more water over the weekend and I did shed 3-4 lbs doing that. I'm glad because I felt so bloated. My goal is to get down to at least 145-140. Sometimes I get so discouraged and decide to be plump but then I see myself in the mirror and think Oh my gosh. That immediantly sends me back to eating right. I have a terrible time fighting each little half lb. I do get out and walk with my dogs but with the hot weather I have been putting it off lately.
Sorry to ramble on
Have a great day
Tennie
