And being on P2 I can have some. I just got back from the farm with a flat of berries. Snacked all that way home, but they were so good!!! I love fresh Ontario Berries!!

The kids and I picked *30 lbs* of strawberries a couple weeks ago!! I froze most of them and we've been using them for smoothies, and also made jam for the first time. It's the "real-sugar" kind, so I don't eat it, but I can give the jars away to family and friends. I also made DH his favorite pie, strawberry-rhubarb, for Father's Day. He managed to polish it off (I had 1 piece and the kids shared 1 piece) in 2 days! I have been ordered NOT to make that again! :o)

Enjoy your berries!

First there are strawberries, then raspberries, then blueberries, then blackberries, then peaches.....I love summer. The girls found the strawberries. I asked them "Can you eat these?" and they both said no (cuz I am making jam tomorrow). But then I told them that I will not need ALL of them, so the rest are for eating. They are so excited!!

I need to find somewhere to pick blueberries around here...I haven't heard of any. My neighbor has a pear tree that's right outside DD's bedroom window (funny I never noticed it was a pear tree til last year, after we had lived here 3 yrs!), and I noticed last year she didn't appear to pick any--they all ended up rotten on the ground. This year I am going to ask if we can pick them since we *love* pears. I can't wait for apple season to roll around again, too... :o)

How did you freezer your strawberries?

From what I have read, adding a little sugar to the berries before freezing helps reduce frost and freezer burn. But I don't add any (that wouldn't be SBD-friendly now, would it?). I just wash them, cut off the tops and cut big ones in half, then freeze on a cookie sheet so I don't end up with big clumps of berries. Once they are frozen I put them in Ziploc freezer bags. I've done the same with blueberries, too.
