My husband and I just started into phase 2. I'm not worried about him b/c he loses fast and has more to go but i'm only 5'4" 126 lbs. with a short waist. So every lb. that i gain back shows fast. In phase 1 i only lost 5 lbs which is great but it has been an up and down struggle of being very careful of my portions. Even if i eat too many veggies or the good foods list i'll gain back another lb. My goal is to lose another 10 lbs. of weight from my previouse preg. I lost a set of twins in march when i was 6months along and i'd like to lose the extra weight before we start trying to have another baby this fall/winter. I eat very healthy all the veggies, lean meats and cheeses, nuts, dairy etc. so that's not a problem but i gain weight back so easy that i'm afraid to start adding the grains and fruits etc. Do we start with just one serving of bread a day or cereal and then add more later if we still lose? or can we add a mix of both and even some fruit? oh Is natural applesauce with no sugars ok?

Hi & welcome!

You are currently 5'4" and 126 pounds and you would like to lose an additional 10 pounds? You're probably at a very healthy weight right now. Losing vanity pounds is the most difficult. However, you'll only be sabotaging yourself if you don't add grains and fruit to your diet. Your body needs those nutrients and you'll be slowing down your metabolism without the proper nutrients and fuel your body needs.

It's recommended to start with 1 grain and 1 fruit the first week of phase 2. In week 2 of phase 2 you would add another grain and fruit until you were eating 3 grain servings and 2 to 3 fruit servings daily. This Phase 2 link will help you:

Applesauce isn't recommended unless you make it yourself with the skin intact. Store-bought applesauce has the skin removed and too little fiber.

If you have other questions, please ask. Good Luck in phase 2.

Thanks, I know that most people see my weight and ask why lose more? your at an ideal weight but it's all in my midsection and it's far from thin. I honestly look like i'm 4 or 5 months pregn. by the end of the day and i'm only 25- so i still do have some vanity issues! ah! i wish i didn't! I do excersice, walking and pilates so i'm hoping the weight will come off with the combination of eating well. thanks again!

First - I think everyone's ideal weight is different. I'm 5'3" and 115lbs - but I have a very small frame, so it suits me fine.

As far as your body shape though, do you do strength training? See, one think I learned is that you an lose lots of weight and be at an "ideal" number as far as pounds go - but if you don't strength train, your body will be the same SHAPE it was when you were overweight. You have to strength train and concentrate on reducing body fat percentage (not necessarily pounds on the scale) to change the SHAPE of your body - which sounds like your main concern.

What I did, as I was really afraid to start adding grains and fruit too, was add 1 each in per day. I stayed with 1 grain/1 fruit for 2 weeks. When I realized that I was doing o.k. with that, then I added in another grain & fruit.

Add them slowly, and as your body adjusts you shouldn't have any issues. Good Luck!
