Sugar Cravings

Well, it seems my appetite has stteadily increased in the last 14-18 days... which I readily blamed on my first Post-partum AF but Af is gone - has been for a couple days and I still feel like I am overeating!!

Today has been pretty decent I guess:

4 scrambled eggs w/ zucchini, orange pepper, mushroom, tomato and mozz cheese
2-3 small oranges (really small - was sharing them with Abigail)
3 strawberries
normal serving of chicken creole
1 bowl kashi go lean w/ skim milk
2 bottles water
1 Diet Dr Pepper
1/2 cup no sugar added ice cream

For the record I do normally eat 4 meals (9,12,3,7)

Dinner is baked seasoned pork chops (lean) and garden veggies)

Feel free to pick apart the menu for the day.... open to anything that will curb the MAJOR sugar cravings I am having today (which is why I went with the bowl of ice cream that I wouldn't normally eat until snack after dinner)

Except for a couple of missing grain and dairy servings, you menu looks pretty good (actually, maybe you had rice with your creole chicken?)!

Maybe your cravings are triggered by something you ate yesterday.

Stay on track and drink your water and you should be fine.

Yep, I had rice with the chicken creole and will have a slice of bread w/ some butter with my pork chop and veggies at dinner.

Yesterday, I had:

1 PB and banana
same scrambled egg thing as today
sandwich: avocado, mozz cheese, turkey on SF WW bread w/ reduced fat mayo
3 fat strawberries and an orange
chicken creole and orange peppers
2 cheese sticks
more peanut butter, cheese and strawberries for bed
3 bottles water 2 w/ Crystal Light
2 CF diet dr peppers

Yesterday I missed my diary but that's actually not unusual - I just can't drink it plain, don't have a blender for a smoothie (looking to rectify that) and so that's why I got the cereal - I drink it with cereal.

Hi Jennie -- do you think Nutrasweet in your diet drinks may be triggering sweet cravings? For me, it does if I have too much.

I actually gave up the regular diet sodas, and have noticed a difference with that. I do have a couple of Diet Rite soda's weekly, they are caffeine free & nutrasweet free, they are sweetened with Splenda.

I don't seem to have the sweet cravings with Splenda. And, I also notice when I have too much nutrasweet, my skin gets really icky.

I know everyone is different, so that may not be it for you, just a thought!

Sue - good thought!!

I'll try drinking more water (not in addition to my diet drinks but instead of) over the next couple days and see if that helps!!

Jennie,

I'm a little worried about the amount of eggs you're eating.

My cholesterol was checked 6 weeks ago (maybe 7) when I had my insulin resistance rechecked and all was well - I don't even technically "have" insulin resistance anymore. How many eggs a day are recommended? 4 medium is too much?

I think the general recommendation is no more than one egg a day (that's not a SBD recommendation--it's a more general one).

The American Heart Association recommends not more than 7 eggs per week.

It seems like you do a lot of scrambled eggs - have you considered using Egg Beaters?

An idea would be to use 1 egg and then the rest egg beaters. The good news is that egg beaters are lower in calories and fat so technically you could have more of them - which may help to fill you up.

Good luck,

Lisa.
