New Here...But not to SBD!

Good morning everyone: I'm new to this board although I've been reading some of the wonderful info here for several weeks. What a great group you all are!

I've been on the SBD since late February and have lost 60 lbs. and met my goal of 148 ( 5'8")so technically I've just begun Phase 3-maintaining. I wouldn't mind losing 5-10 more lbs. but after having 4 children somehow the little tummy pouch from carrying twins just won't flatten out totally. I am very grateful though for finding this WOE and plan to continue with it for the rest of my life. I even talked my husband into a modified version of it and he has lost 25 lbs.

Now that I'm not focused so much on losing I really need to fine tune my meal plans for maintaining. I DO NOT want to start gaining everything back after working so hard to get healthy! I'm a bit nervous about this stage and would appreciate any hints, tips or advice from any of you have that have reached this Phase also.

I look forward to continuing my healthy journey with all of you!

Hi there - I lost 67lbs on South Beach in 2005. I have maintained that loss in phase 3 for 1.5 years now.

For me, maintaining has been a piece of cake (whole grain/no sugar added cake of course :-) I mainly stick with the Foods to Enjoy list, but I don't "count" anything anymore. So if I have 4 or 5 grains instead of the recommended 3 in phase 2, its not a big deal. If I have 150 calories of sweet treats instead of 100, no big deal. Some extra nuts one day - oh well. I have added back in corn on occasion ( a few tablespoons in salad or an ear of corn at a BBQ is not a big deal) During phase 2 I had a treat meal about once every 3 weeks, now its once a week. I kind of make my own decisions on a few things - like we have a local lady who makes awesome whole grain bread from her own organic, freshly milled flour w/no additives. But its only 2g fiber per serving instead of 3g. I still think its way healthier than store bought, so I'm okay with that. But I have never gone back to adding in any true "junk" food (chips, donuts, fast food, treats with "real" sugar, etc.)

So I have stuck to the general philosophy, just not as strict with all the exact guidelines. I still exercise too, 5 days per week - focused on strength training.

Good luck! Its always nice to see another phase 3'er.

Welcome to our board and congratulations on your success!!!

I am in phase 2/phase 3 and what keeps me on track is planning. When I take a few minutes each week to plan my family's dinners and then shop for the necessary ingredients it takes the guesswork out of it. I also do a daily meal plan in the iJournals folder below. I assess what foods I have on hand and then plan accordingly. Seeing it in black and white helps me to see if I have all the required foods and allows me to make adjustments.

I also recommend visiting the board often and participating in our discussions. We have alot of fun here! You'll also find alot of inspiration as well as new recipes to try.

Continued good luck to you!

Hi and thanks for the welcome!

MichaelAnn, your story inspired me to join the board because of how wonderfully you've done. Your before and after pics are amazing. Thanks for the insight into Phase 3. I have eased up somewhat on the serving guidelines but still stay pretty close to what I should. I LOVE fruit so sometimes I might have 4-5 servings instead of 3 but I suppose it's better than a hot fudge sundae. I'm still kinda feeling my way with this Phase to see what works and what doesn't for me.

What I love about SBD is that you could seriously eat this way for the rest of your life and be satisfied. Five years ago I lost 50 lbs. on SlimFast and it was a rough go. I was starving all of the time. On SBD I was very rarely hungry, if ever. Once I went off SlimFast I gained it all back and then some because I really didn't change the way I ate like I have done on SBD. You live and you learn!
