I happened across this website looking for SB message boards yesterday and this was the first one I found and think it is great. I joined right away and even sent the link to my SIL. I have been doing SB for about 1 1/2 years and lost about 51 lbs. I have tried so many diets but this one is the best. I refer to it as a "lifestyle" change. For all you newbies, it works if you stick with it. I went from a size 14 to a 6 and have never been that size before. I have been able to maintain my size for almost a year now. I joined the board for new ideas because after this long some foods tend to get old. I was wondering if anyone knows about the Quaker Rice cakes, the sugar is very minimal, but I am concerned about the rice aspect. I rarely even eat the brown rice, even though it is good for you, it is still a carb in my head. Can rice cakes be eaten? Thanks in advance for your replies and good luck to all of you on the beach.

Hi Kathy! Welcome to our board and congratulations on your success!
If you've come looking for new ideas and recipes...we've got them! Just scroll through our Recipes folder or use the search functions to find something more specific.
Unfortunately, rice cakes are not allowed on South Beach due to the fact that they are made from white rice. If you are maintaining and in phase 3, you may eat them in moderation. If you are looking for something crunchy, you may have Triscuits, All-Bran crackers and Wasa crackers.
I'm glad you found us and I look forward to seeing you around!
Welcome to the board! Its always nice to see another successful phase 3'er! Congrats on your weight loss and maintaining. I lost 67lbs and have maintained now for almost 2 years. I'm also at a lower size than I have ever been, even smaller than before I had kids! You are right, its a lifestyle change.
As far as I know, no rice cakes (even those made w/brown rice) meet the fiber guidelines of SB (3g fiber per 1oz) Now PERSONALLY - since you are on phase 3 and maintained for awhile - I wouldn't see that a 40 calorie rice cake is a huge deal. Really the only issue would be a blood sugar swing - but if you have some peanut butter on it or a carb competitor with it, I doubt that would happen. Phase 3 is all about personal choice and adapting the program to be sustainable long term.
As for boredom, scroll down the recipe section! If you hit more, you will get pages and pages of recipes. I've never, ever felt bored on South Beach! We try a new recipe 2-3 times per week and I can easily go 4 or even 6 weeks without repeating a meal. I like to experiment and like a lot of variety - and that has been very, very easy to do with South Beach.
