Have you hit a slump in phase 2? How long did it last and what did you do to get out of it?
As far as I know I'm not in a slump, but I know going into the holidays it will be real easy to backslide, not be very strict and well... you know... downhill and upscale... from there.
Just curious!!

Okay - here is my take on exercise. I hated exercise before South Beach. I called myself "active" too, chasing after the kids, going for walks on the weekends, etc. But obviously it isn't enough to just live an active lifestyle - if it was I never would have gained the 67lbs to begin with. I realized this before starting, so when I began South Beach I believed that I could not have one without the other. I could not just exercise and lose and I could not just eat right and lose. If I wanted to REALLY succeed - as in blow it out of the park weight loss (which I did because I am a bit of an overachiever) - I had to do BOTH.
Now - did I like it? No. Have I ever truly, deep, down enjoyed exercise? No. Do I do it? Yes. Do I "love" cleaning toilets? No. Do I do it? Yes. Do I "enjoy" paying bills? No. Do I do it? Yes. Do I "have fun" going to the dentist? No. Do I do it? Yes. Because that is just what being a grown up means. If you want to have a productive life, be healthy, etc. there are just some things you HAVE to do whether you like it or not. Exercise is just one of those things that goes in that category for me.

I pay bills b/c I LOVE my air conditioning and my internet!! hahahah
;-)
I gained weight being VERY SEDENTARY so the active lifestyle was my first step and sadly, I guess it is time to step it up a bit.
2 one hour work outs a week is a pretty big deal for me! ;-)
Heh, that is what I meant, you said it much better than me.
Jennie, I am glad you are doing Pilates, doing something is better than nothing, but I just wanted to post a couple of articles for you:
Q: Will Pilates alone help to tone or should I lift weights?
A: Pilates is a great core strengthener (abs, low back, obliques, hips), but it doesn't suffice as strength training. It's a great addition to a well-rounded workout, but you will not build muscle by doing Pilates alone.
In the weight loss game, building muscle is ESSENTIAL. I suggest you incorporate strength training as well. It doesn't have to take long and you can break it up into smaller sessions if that works best for you.
___________
Your Pilates workout is a great way to improve general fitness, and will definitely burn some extra calories—but not as many as traditional aerobic exercise. And it won't provide the same cardiovascular conditioning benefits as aerobics, even if it does elevate your heart rate quite a bit. Aerobic exercise has heart-healthy effects because of the unique way it forces the cardiovascular system to provide extra oxygen and blood flow to the muscles. So, we encourage people NOT to replace traditional aerobic exercise (running, walking, biking, etc.) with other things that serve different purposes. Better to do both, if possible.
