Exercise - what am I striving for here?

Okay, so I exercised today after Pilates (which pilates is going great!! I have already noticed a big improvement in the pain/flexibility of my hips and tailbone!)
I did 20 minutes on the treadmill at 3.6 mph and I power walked 1.2 miles.
It has a heartrate thing and my heartrate never got up over 115 - well ONCE it was 118 actually. Otherwise it bounced b/w 109 - 118.
Then I ddi 10 minutes on the elliptical machine and at the very end when I was exhuasted haha, it was in the 140's.
What is a good fat burn heartrate?
Does my normal resting heartrate have any bearing on what MY personal fat burn should be or is it universal?
My resting heart rate is very, very low - 40's.

ivillage has a target heart rate calculator if that helps: http://dftools.ivillage.com/healthtools/calc_thr.cfm

In my reading/research I've found the general consensus to be that the so-called "fat burn zone" where you aren't overtaxing your cardiovascular system is hogwash.
That heart rate calculator assumes your maximum target to be at 75%. I agree with whoever wrote that cardio should be higher intensity - between 80-85%, which means getting a little sweaty and out of breath! If I never went above 75% of my maximum heart rate, I'd never even break a sweat!
The formula is 220-age x 0.80 or 0.85.

Yea, when I'm at the end of my cycles of HIIT, I'm feeling nauseous.
