Day four of P2 (skipped directly to P2 because of diabetes) and I'm just making sure that I'm doing everything right..... I've lost 2.7 pounds since Monday (happy! happy!) and "think" I'm making some wise choices, but let's see what you think!!
B: 2 scrambled eggs with chopped canadian bacon, mushrooms, onions and red bell pepper with LF sharp cheddar cheese and a cup of 1% milk.
Snack: Tangerine
L: Sweet Tomatoes for a huge salad (at least 3 cups) of "legal" veggies, according to the list and oil/vinegar. As my sugar level was a little low (as I'd had virtually no carbs for the day) I had one of the small corn bread thingies (about 2"x2"x1").
Snack: 15 cashews with 1 cup of 1% milk.
D: That wonderful Shrimp Casserole that Cathy posted on 12/11. Fresh broccoli (about 1.5 cups) and a very small WW roll (about 1 oz.) with a scant amount of olive oil and spices to dip.
Snack: SF/FF (yuck!) Chocolate Pudding
From what I can tell, I'm getting in my milk, veggies, a fruit, grains and everything else that I should be getting.
Any tweaking that you see that I need to do?
Thanks,
Sharon

I'm not sure what a 'corn bread thingy' is...was it real corn bread?
Thanks for the quick reply, Joy!!
Yes, it was a piece of cornbread and I know it wasn't 'legal' but at the restaurant there wasn't much of a choice that was better. I could have had the full fat pudding or ice cream, but thought that corn bread would be better than those or the blueberry muffins that had sugar sprinkled on it.
I'm always having to make sure my sugar level is okay, which usually is but it fell a bit low and I was getting light headed, nauseus and absent-minded, so I didn't have much time to make a good decision. I just had to react.
I'm glad that the rest was legal and SBD seems to be a 'liveable' solution to my weight problem. My doctor loves it!!! I hated to leave Weight Watchers, but followed what he said to do.
Thanks again for your input!! :o)
A better choice next time at Sweet Tomatoes if you need some carbs that is a totally legal choice is a sweet potato. They have them next to the baked potatoes at every one I have been to. Another complex carb that you could try would be anything with beans in it - they usually have a low-fat/vegetarian bean soup or even a low fat chili. It doesn't count toward your grains/starches, but beans have just as many carbs per serving as bread.

Great ideas!! Thanks!!
What I actually needed at that time (as I was so low) was 4 oz. of regular Coke, but couldn't even swallow the thought of that syrup going down. I actually needed something with quick carbs in it (and had plenty of beans on my salad) so that it would get into my system fast. Bread of any kind does that - to me - unless it is whole grain or whole wheat. Within about 20 minutes, my sugar level was back to a more normal level and I was able to finish my meal with my husband without being as loopy as I had started to get.
Your suggestions were fantastic and much appreciated. I just had to treat my lows before I really got into trouble, no matter what it took!!! :o)

Hi Sharon,
It looks like you're doing a very "light" version of Phase 2, which is barely more than Phase 1.
I'm certainly no expert on diabetes - but I am thinking along the same lines as Maggie. It seems like you are pushing the limits and trying to eat no carbs - then it gets low, so you have to have the quick/bad carbs. That is exactly the type of cycle SB tries to break - even for those without diabetes.
If you did a full phase 2 - 3 fruits and 3 grains, plus all the other complex carbs like dairy, nuts and beans - and spread them even throughout the day, would it be less likely that you would have a major drop and need to resort to the "bad" stuff??

Thank you both, Maggie and Michael Ann,
I appreciate the information that you gave. I am actually getting 2-3 fruits a day and at least 1 grain - usually a small whole wheat roll with dinner. Beans are one of my very favorite foods, so I usually have at least a cup a day. I feel that I'm getting ample food to keep my blood sugar as level as possible,
Sharon,
Congrats on losing 70 lbs already!
Thank you, Maggie!!
Yes, I make sure that I eat about 30 minutes before I workout. I'm very careful about that. The thing that keeps me the most sustained is the low carb yogurt with a little bit of high fiber cereal on top (not even 1/8 oz). I let the cereal sit there for a few minutes before I mix it in because I don't care for crunchy yogurt.
This is also what I eat many times before bed to keep my sugar levels good throughout the night, so I don't spike before I wake up. (For those of you don't know, if you are diabetic and wait a long time between eating, your body creates it's own insulin because it thinks you are starving and need the energy to sustain life - breathing, heartbeat, etc., so your blood sugar rises to give your body energy. See? It's NOT just about the food choices when you are a diabetic!!! :o) ).
I appreciate your kind words and the kudos. It's been a long haul and I have a longer way to go, but I'm getting there!!!
Sharon,
I like cereal stirred into yogurt, too!
