DYK our neighbor did that for us last year (I had asked him to, and tried to pay him, but he wouldn't let me pay), so the kids and I brought him a plate of brownies the next day. I think he appreciated that!
DYK he has a blade on the front of his lawn tractor, so it took him less than 10 minutes to do the whole thing?
DYK he manages some properties but doesn't "work" much, so he spends alot of time on snowy days just driving that thing around the cul-de-sac plowing stuff?
DYK our neigbor right across the street also has a blade on the front of his pick-up, and he'll sometimes clear the cul-de-sac before the plows get to us?
DYK we do have a snowblower, but it's a tiny single-stage one...DH keeps thinking about getting something bigger, but I'd really rather have some new furniture!! :o)
DYK I chuckled when you said you shoveled, but didn't get dressed. My kids like to stay in their PJs alot on weekends, and I'll let them go out and play in the snow with their snowpants and coats over their PJs--they think that's cool! :o)
DYK it is really alarming sometimes what kids know at such a young age these days?
DYK last night at Bunco one of the moms was talking about how her DD was at her first school dance last night (7th grade), and she--the mom--was all anxious about it.
DYK she said that her DD has a boyfriend who is a year older, and that she had texted her awhile back and said "OMG mom he just hugged me!"...
DYK she said her DD tells her pretty much everything, and so do her friends--I asked how she got her to do that, because when I was younger I *never* talked to my mom! She said she just hangs out with her DD and her friends alot and talks. I want to be that mom!!
DYK we actually had ulterior motives when we had our basement finished with a theater room--we want to be the house that the kids want to hang out at--that way we know where they are and who they're with!

DYK that is a great thing to do?
DYK it's good not only for your own kids, but for their friends to know that your home is a safe, welcoming place to hang out?
DYK it's also nice for them to be downstairs and 'out of the way'? LOL!
DYK when DH and I were dating in HS we always hung out at his house, because they had the basement setup. His mom would come down at least once and hang out and "chat" for a few minutes. I never minded, but it drove him nuts! It really bothered my mom that we didn't hang out at our house, but we didn't have anyplace to hang out alone there, and if we were there she was *constantly* coming in and being annoying!

DYK one of our neighbors owns a bulldozer, and will sometimes plow our driveway with that monstrosity of a thing.

DYK that's exactly the advice we received from a lot of people...make your house the fun one to hang out at.
DYK when we built our family room we had that in mind.
