dyk I took after my mom, almost

dyk she was 30 when she had me

dyk I was 27 when I had Anthony

dyk with the boys I'm pretty much the same age as their friends' moms

dyk maybe a couple years older

dyk with Marisa, though, it's a whole different story

dyk I had just turned 39 when I had her

dyk what's really hard for me is being older than some (a lot) of their teachers

dyk in fact, I'm old enough to be some of their teachers' moms

dyk if that isn't a strange feeling, oy vay

cute fall siggy 2

dyk I'm feeling kinda guilty

dyk it's a beautiful day out, and I should be walking to pick up the kids--they could use the fresh air and exercise

dyk instead I decided I'll drive, which gives me 20 more minutes at home to get laundry done (and play in the DYK)...

dyk oh well...

dyk funny though that my cool young mom now drives me nuts

dyk which she really did not do when I was a kid

dyk I guess that since we are essentially contemporaries now (both adults, in a similar age bracket) it bugs me more when she tries to tell me what to do

dyk I agree

dyk I often sub in WW pastry flour instead of straight WW flour--it's quite a bit lighter in texture. Perfect in pancakes!

dyk I *love* onions!

dyk your mom sounds like mine--I blame her for me not really liking most veggies when I was a kid

dyk about a year or so ago she made dinner for us, and tried to serve us canned asparagus...eeewwwww...it was the most DISGUSTING thing I had ever had!

dyk actually there are two different terms and they mean two different things in regards to meat, there is halal and zabiha and its predominantly a difference that is essential for Muslims in the Western world.

dyk halal is any meat that has not had a name of a deity pronounced over it other than Allah (so you could buy meat from Kroger and say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah) and consider that meat halal)

dyk halal is also used in other foods to show that it doesnt have any ingredients that are considered unlawful (rennet in cheese, gelatin from unknown sources, which is why I buy halal marshmallows because they have fish gelatin and the gelatin in regular ones is from pork in most cases and we err on the side of caution when we dont know for certain, many yogurts (except Dannon) contain pork gelatin in them too)

dyk zabiha is the other term and it refers to meat that was slaughtered according to Islamic law and the name of Allah was pronounced over it at the time of slaughter. (this is an important distinction in the west with the advent of other methods of slaughtering animals and the lack of religious affiliation with the slaughtering)

dyk some Muslims consider only zabiha meat halal (permissible)

dyk but there are other Muslims who consider meat from an unknown source of slaughter to be halal because they say in the name of Allah over it before eating

dyk I am in the second group, mostly because I am not certain which is right or not and I figure God wont hold me accountable for a sin that I wasnt committing intentionally

dyk there is no laws regarding mixing milk or meat or anything regarding leavening or any of those laws

dyk we can also eat any fish and shellfish we want, but we cant eat carrion or any products derived from pork

dyk so our laws are not as strict as Jewish dietary laws

dyk oh and alcohol is not allowed at all

dyk I am hoping that when we get to heaven I can have a margarita....LOL!!

oh and edit #2....if im not mistaken Kosher meat is considered zabiha too

dyk my cool young mom doesn't drive me nuts, but I can tell her mind is starting to age?

dyk she doesn't like technology or any kind of change?

dyk she seems very feeble at times?

dyk she also gets very nasty with certain people - doctor's office receptionists, her accountant, her investment guy (go figure), and even her customers (she's a florist)?

dyk she has a couple of medical conditions that are controlled but seems to be searching for the one that's gonna kill her?

dyk so y'all won't believe this...

dyk I'm at lunch w'/ my mom and Dek after small group, and I am telling her about Abi's appt at the Hopping Eye Associates (one named partner is a behavioral optometrist specializing in pediatrics)

dyk my mom slaps the table and says, No way!

dyk way?

dyk turns out - that's where my SIL2B works!!!!

dyk I knew she was part time w/ intent to go full time post optometry school at an eye doc's office in clear lake, but I'd never committed the name of the office to memory.

dyk she has a couple of medical conditions that are controlled but seems to be searching for the one that's gonna kill her?

dyk my mom is 55 and she is like that, always thinking something or someone is lying to us and we are all going to die of some poison we are being fed by the food industry or we will all get cancer from our plastic bowls

dyk it drives me insane because there is no logic to it

dyk kind of like how you get a cold if you are wet and outside

dyk then why dont we all get sick after we go swimming in the summer?

dyk but she doesnt see the illogical-ness of it
