dyk I am extremely odd when it comes to this sort of thing

dyk I invited my husband's ex to our wedding and it does not bother me a bit to have her around

dyk perhaps its different because they were never married, but they lived together for the better part of 6 years and he considers her to have been his wife in everything but the law

dyk my feelings about her are simple: if DH wanted to be with her, their relationship would not have ended and he would not be with me.

dyk that said, I realize that everyone's situation is different

dyk what really bugs me in your post is that your in-laws are being disrespectful to you, by not honoring your preferences.

dyk again, here is a different perspective on ex-in-laws

dyk after my parents divorced, my dad remained close to my mom's parents and my mom remained close to my dad's mother.

dyk and by close, I mean visits and frequent conversations for the rest of my grandparents' lives.

dyk they all had a shared bond -- me -- and relationships that went well beyond raising a child/grandchild

dyk none of that ended or should have ended with the divorce

dyk even now, my dad is close to several members of my mom's family: my dad's best friend is a cousin of mother's

dyk and this is a cousin that my mom is very, very

dyk my ex (of 5 years) was invited to (and attended with his girlfriend) our wedding?

dyk he has never been disrespectful to our relationship and has never crossed the line.

dyk Aaron's ex-wife is a different story?

dyk we can all get along for the sake of Hayden, but beyond that, she is completely disrespectful of our relationship/marriage.

dyk inappropriate phone calls and emails are just the small things on the list?

dyk for us, that's what makes this "not okay"?

dyk I don't think there's any reason for relationships to necessarily end, but I do think that when those relationships with the ex come at the cost of the relationship with the *real* family, that is a problem.
