Over The Land Is April
OVER the land is April,
Over my heart a rose;
Over the high, brown mountain
The sound of singing goes.
Say, love, do you hear me,
Hear my sonnets ring?
Over the high, brown mountain,
Love, do you hear me sing?
By highway, love, and byway
The snows succeed the rose.
Over the high, brown mountain
The wind of winter blows.
Say, love, do you hear me,
Hear my sonnets ring?
Over the high, brown mountain
I sound the song of spring,
I throw the flowers of spring.
Do you hear the song of spring?
Hear you the songs of spring?
Robert Louis Stevenson

dyk you're right Lindsy
dyk and so are you Destiny and yes, I usually only help out on Valentines Day and Mothers Day as A FAVOR TO MY MOTHER...not my sister
dyk she is bossy
dyk my mother owns the business
dyk my sister thinks she is entitled
dyk Destiny - yay on the basement
dyk you'll be so happy about it when you have kids too
Rebekah,
dyk I usually struggle about when and how to contact teachers when I have an issue (good, bad or otherwise)
dyk in high school the lines are even more blurred than in middle school
dyk in our middle school there was a guidance counselor assigned to each general grade level and she was a good one to start with
dyk I wouldn't wait or think it's too late....Meagan has probably the better part of a whole marking period left this year
dyk does she use an assignment pad? Maybe you can work with the teachers where they can ensure she is writing everything down and then you check it each day. You might also be able to use the "notes" area in the pad as a means of on-going communication with each of the teachers.
DYK We have started a homework routine with Maegan since her last report card?
DYK It's part of her grounding that we will see all her notebooks and go over with her everything she studied in those subjects for the day?
DYK I'm pretty sure she is being straight about what's she's doing because we've told her that she will be doing work in those subjects every day regardless of what she tells us that she did in class?
DYK She does have the better part of her last grading period left?
DYK I haven't tried contacting her guidance counselor yet, but that may be a good idea?
DYK She got an assignment journal at the beginning of school, but she doesn't use it?
DYK But I did go thru her Social Studies and English notebooks today ..besides it being really messy, it's hard to tell whether all the work is there or not, since there are no check-up lists in there, like there was last year?
DYK Meanwhile, Maegan assures us that she is really trying to turn things around now?
DYK She knows that she stands to lose her entire summer to extra assignments and chores if she doesn't bring home some good grades?

Abigail Madsen
Abigail receives therapy services for Sensory Processing Disorder and Dyspraxia at The Children’s Therapy Center in Clear Lake. The session is on Thursdays at 10:00am and lasts 60 minutes. Abigail also does 30 minutes per day of listening therapy.
For Abigail to be successful in the classroom, and at the request of the principle, we have written out some of the more prominent issues Abigail deals with in hopes that she can be placed with a teacher that will benefit her.
We appreciate your time and attention to this and look forward to a great Kindergarten year.
Strict/Quiet Classroom
Abigail is easily abstracted by noise or commotion. While most people (including children) acclimate to surrounding noise and actually no longer even notice them (air conditioners turning on, doors closing, sneezing, papers rustling, etc) Abigail registers every sound new each time she hears it. She has to work very hard to filter out what is important and what is not. Therefore, the less she has to filter, the better she can focus. Due to the dyspraxia, she cannot make eye contact and listen at the same time, so she will often not look at the person speaking, in concentration on the words being said to her.
Abigail is known for her creative, original ideas. In a stricter classroom, with a rigid schedule, firm set of rules/guidelines that are not wavered from, she will be able to fully participate as a member of the class without her artistic, creative ways getting in the way of following directions and learning her lessons. Abigail needs to know will happen next. Transitions will be a problem without warning.
Abigail needs a very firm, authoritative figure leading her, but also one that understands that her odd or undesirable behaviors are not a result of defiance, but a symptom of unrest due to lack of sensory input or sensory overload. (It is a very delicate balance, but it can be achieved and often is.)
Movement/Exercise
For a child like Abigail with a movement disorder, movement throughout the day is imperative. Recess will be the saving grace that gets her through her day. Movement in any form, jumping jacks, swinging, even just shifting positions, centers and focuses her. I strongly recommend that Abigail be allowed to participate in recess each day.
Abigail may need to stand up to do her class work.
dyk and I replied back to the NYC agent:
dyk I got my small group lesson finished
dyk we have been turning people away from the group b/c we cannot take on anymore children - we have 9-11 at any given week
dyk and 3 childcare providers ages 15,14 and 10
dyk no one in my group wants to divide and start another group, so I am thinking at the start of next year, I may split and start another group... I don't know yet
dyk I cannot stand to keep turning people away, moms with young children...
My Chart
dyk Jennie you had a very productive evening
dyk the letter about Abigail is very well written and will certainly help the teachers
dyk I am glad you replied to the agent
dyk it's sad that family doesn't understand why/when you don't do what they would like you to do
dyk a job doesn't always mean that you work in an office 9-5
dyk sorry that your sister doesn't get that
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
