dyk we have a stud finder.
dyk and since I have the sense of humor of a 13 year old, it is an endless source of amusement for me.
DYK the dogwood tree in our front yard has completely turned- it is a beautiful bright red
DYk I see some yellow on the maples out back too....and it was 81 today
dyk that sounds beautiful!
dyk I wonder if my lacy maples will turn?
dyk I have one that is huge and healthy and one that was on the verge of death when we moved in.
DYK I'm glad your tree is on the mend!
DYK when we looked at areal pictures of our house
dyk I gave you the short of it, but here's the "long" of it - with the observations - if anyone is interested
It's long - brace yourself. LOL
Abigail is absolutely lost in the classroom among the other 21 kids. The noise level, commotion, the controlled chaos of it all (I say controlled b/c they run quite smoothly for such a large class) is just too much for her.
I observed for over 4 hours, transition times, lunch, recess, PE, carpet time, reading time, math time, 2 potty times... and I would make a very educated guess that Abigail heard (REGISTERED) about 25% of the instructions given by the teacher, due to one reason or another.
She "checked out" about 5-7 different times. (including during PE)
Got her name on the board for the same type of thing that happens everyday when she just can't/won't move on. I did get an eyeful of what Mrs B means by "refusing to do what is asked"
Abigail was coloring and couldn't/wouldn't move on to the back of the page. Mrs. B did everything exactly as I suggested - what usually works and Abigail reacted very poorly to it. I noted it too her 2-3 minutes to recover from hiding her head, pushing back from the table, hiding her face, etc, and then realized that she suddenly "recovered" when they moved onto the SECOND page and therefore, she NEVER DID WHAT MRS. B asked her to do.
Carpet time = NIGHTMARE, too long, too fast in changes of seating, topic, questions, etc BAD BAD BAD for Abi, lol, which is why she just checks out, and rolls around on the floor chewing on her hair, clothes, necklace and tying her shoes together.
While she is missing 3/4 of the instruction, she seems to sometimes follow along but my close inspection showed that she was simply following the OTHER children and I could tell the actions were meaningless to her b/c she hadn't heard Mrs B to know what they were doing/why.
She tends to stand toward the back of the line - always.
She rarely held up her hand to asnwer even though I watched her mouth the answers quite often. At one point she seemed TOTALLY in her own world, feverishly working on a drawing on the worksheet (not what she was supposed to be doing) and all the sudden she raised and was called on and ANSWERED.
I was floored - I was sure she was totally checked out. So that confused me completely.
Mrs B was surprised that Abigail behaved quite normally (for her - meaning she reacted the same even with me there) with me observing. She got her name on the board and while her reactions and negative behavior weren't as extreme as sometimes, I did get to see the whens and hows of her unrest.
I asked, and Mrs B replied candidly to my question about whether or not she felt she had the time/resouces to give Abigail what she needed in the classroom.
In a nutshell. NO.
She's one teacher to 22 children and she's an amazing teacher, but Abigail needs MUCH more one on one than her 504 plan can cover and Mrs. B is very worried that Abi's autistic tendencies are not being addressed - simply b/c she's not equipped (as a special ed teacher would be) to do so.
I had said before that the behavior notes home gave me the impression that the other kids in the class just did exactly what she said with no problem. Like Mrs B says, journal time over, come to the carpet and the other kids just slapped their books closed and ran to the carpet and there was Abi, totally unprepared to transition and unable to do so.
That is EXACTLY how it is. The other kids
dyk have fun this weekend, Sheila!
dyk
dyk nope, no pain meds.
dyk I think my problem is that the dogs have made their way back on the bed (and it was AARON that let them, not me!) and they act like chad...tossing, turning, being pretty much just annoying when I'm trying to sleep, lol.
dyk there's alway something that has to go wrong with this stuff!
dyk I think I might be approaching the 'beyond catching up' point
dyk I'm over 2 days/350 posts behind
dyk I've been actually
