Update on finding a couselor

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about finding a couselor for my dd to help her with her self-esteem. I found a group in town that specializes in adolescent counseling - and all the counselors are women! I didn't know this place existed. I made an appointment for myself for this morning and one for dd on Monday. I told dd I would prefer to meet the counselor before they got together and gave her some options. I could meet with the counselor ahead of time on my own, I could meet with her alone for 15 minutes on the day of dd's appointment, I could meet with her with dd for 15 minutes on the day of the appointment or if dd would prefer that I not meet with her, I would respect that. She told me to set up a separate appointment - much to my surprise.

I think dd will be comfortable with her. It's a start, at least. I am very thankful that dd was able to tell me that she needed this.

Again - thanks for all the support and good advice. I'll keep you posted.

Good luck!!

Having had my daughter with more than one counselor, I feel that the best gauge of sucess is how comfortable your daughter feels with her.

Good luck, it sounds like you've made a terrific find!

Yes, you are right. That will be the dealbreaker. I'm reasonably sure she'll be comfortable ... I can just tell. We'll see!
