Just wanted to share a nice story:
Dd has been wanting to learn to play the guitar and, at her request, I posted an inquiry on a local theater listserve asking if anyone had an acoustic guitar they were willing to sell for a reasonable price. Among several replies was one saying he had an Ibenaz acousitc guitar and, since he's glad when any kid wants to learn to play, he was willing to let it go "dirt cheap" and said "make an offer".

Since dd said it was a good guitar, I went into my email (I didn't want her replying from hers) and told her to draft a reply. She wanted to offer $50 and I talked her into starting at $30. He accepted her offer and then asked my location (the listserve members are all over Ohio) so we could arrange to meet. Amazingly, he lives in the same county and was going to be in my town on business today. We agreed to meet in the Home Depot parking lot today at noon and now DD has a very cool guitar that she was able to buy herself with babysitting income!

She managed to get it tuned and is really enjoying playing with it. Who knows where this will lead, but I feel incredibly lucky today!

I hope you DD has fun learning to play her new guitar!

My DD studied guitar for nearly two years. She's had to take a break from lessons due to the demands of high school but joined the Guitar Club at school so she can continue to play and learn from some of the more experienced guitarists. I love listening to her play and I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing your DD too!

A guitar club? How cool. She has said she plans to teach herself. She downloaded some stuff online and has been plucking away. No actual music has resulted from this yet, but who knows! She might do lessons later on but, like your dd, she can't quite squeeze it in just now.

With the holidays coming up, maybe you could surprise her with a guitar lesson book. My DD uses the Hal Leonard series that include a play-along CD. There are two versions of every piece in the book on the CD -- a slow, theory emphasized version and a faster version with accompaniament! (sp?).

DD likes the books/CDs because she can tell immediately if she's off or not learned a piece correctly and with the accompanied version, she feels like she playing WITH other instruments, which is great practice.

Good luck to your DD!
