My DD said this once to - she was talking about how spoiled one of her friends is, and said "you should be happy - I'm not like that". I said "Yup - I'm happy you're not a spoiled brat!' and then we broke out laughing. Now it's become a regular joke between us - any time she's nice or not as nasty as she could be, she'll say "you should be happy...." or I'll say "I should be happy..."

Just today I said "I should be happy. Not only are you letting me walk next to you down the street, but you even hugged me while people were watching." I love being silly with my DD and it helps us joke about things that could otherwise be touchy subjects.

That is so sweet. Humor is a wonderful weapon in the war to survive being a parent of a teen!

Our joke is calling youngest DD princess. My mom, my two girls and I were at a restaurant one afternoon and the waiter was flirting with my DD - she was 15 and he was in him mid 20's. It really irrated DD so when he brought her food out wrong she immediately told him her order wasn't right and he replied "well, whatever the princess wants". My mom and I both tried real hard not laugh b/c it was funny the way he said it. We immediately began joking - my mom is now the queen mum and I'm the queen and oldest DD is also a princess but for some reason she's not the heir to the throne. The real funny thing is that my mom looked up DD's name and it means princess. We joke when we see a tiara or a shirt with princess written on it. It is great!!

Oh and the waiter later apologized and he did not get a tip!

I completely agree! I always feel sorry for some of my son's friends because everything is always SO serious around their house.
