Yep, we went and did it. We broke our own 'rule/decision' It was fun, nonetheless................(drumroll please)..............

We got another dog. Yep, went to the pound yesterday and brought home a doggie!! Yippee!! We promised we'd wait until after the holidays to get one................it is so busy and stuff this time of year...........we really can't afford to board a 2nd one..........it isn't fair to the dog to bring him/her into a home around the holidays........shall I go on????? I'm grinning ear to ear.

His name is now 'Copper' (the pound named him Pooder---for whatever horrible reason--sorry to all the owners of dogs named Pooder that I'm offending) and he's a miniature pinscher/possibly chihuahua mix----he's a reddish brown and black and he's pretty cute. No potty accidents (yet), and he slept all night. He's still really nervous. He knows what a door is, and wants out. I feel sad that he may be missing his old home. He's not a lap dog (yet) but is very quiet and seems content when he's not acting like he's nervous about being here. Buster isn't real happy, but he seems ok for now. I made the mistake of buying them toys at the store. HMMMMMMMM....bad idea. Buster decided that all the toys should be HIS..............so they got picked up----sounds like raising teens...........tee hee.

Just a fun moment in a crazy life. I'll let you know how I feel after I get the Christmas boarding bill.............................I may not feel quite so cheery......

Congrats - he sounds so cute and I'm sure he'll quickly turn into a lapdog. After DD's ex had her dog stolen a couple of years ago, we got another one Thanksgiving weekend. It was fun having a puppy in the house over the holiday. It really was - am I convincing you yet? Of course, we are fortunate that my FIL loves dogs and my MIL hates them so she won't allow them permanently so he jumps at the chance to puppysit.

Have fun!

Oh, How I wish we had 'puppy sitters'. My immediate family is small and nobody but my dad lives around here. And when we travel to family, he is along, because we visit his family as well as my mom's (they are divorced, but all the family lives in Des Moines). I don't have a huge circle of friends, and I always hate to impose on others. The boarding for ONE dog (Buster---we had Sunny put to sleep a couple of weeks ago) was $78.50. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. I'll look for cheaper boarding, but it is doubtful we'll find it. My family in Iowa wasn't real thrilled with the prospect we may bring ONE dog with us, now we have two.............I'll talk to my brother---he was the only receptive one to having my pets stay with him-----BUT the downside to that is that he has an 8 month old ENGLISH MASTIFF, while very gentle could EAT Buster and Copper in a single bite, or send them rolling like a bowling ball with one paw swipe........heck her paws are probably bigger than the little dogs!

If I didn't enjoy my personal holidays so much and have the need to travel out of state, I'd think about setting up a pet sitting service------I suppose it can be lucrative.

Thanks for the sweet words. I know Copper will fit in with the 'group'. He's just so quiet compared to our other dogs.....I also worry that he misses wherever he came from. The shelter (the pound actually---city run) had no info on him, just that he was a stray and where they picked him up at................poor baby---what if there is a family missing him?

The owner of the place we take our Caleb to told me it's a $100K+ a year business! It made me think about it too! The place here, The Alpine Dog Ranch, has several acres and the dogs pretty much get to run free, as opposed to being put in kennels. They charge quite a bit for a stay, though. They love our dog and let him sleep in the house instead of out with the other dogs, carry him up and down the stairs and really cater to him because of his age and limited mobility. It's a major ouch to pay his bill, but he loves going there and we know he is well looked after.

But ... congratulations on your new family member! We adopted Caleb when he was 6 and it took a while for him to settle in. I'm sure it won't be long before Copper is one of the family, not only sitting in your lap, but trying to eat off your plate at dinner time too!
