Transit strike

We (NYC) are on the cusp of a subway and bus strike. DH is "between jobs" and I work in the suburbs, but DD goes to school in Manhattan (we're in Queens) and takes two subways every day. I may be able to drive her to school (at least for a few days), but not sure how she'll get home. It's only a week until school vacation - I was sorta hoping the schools would just close for that week - but I guess that messes up other vacations, teacher contracts, etc and there's SOOOO many kids it would be a mess. My brother lives in Manhattan, but Leah is adamant that she doesn't want to stay with them (they have two little boys, 5 and 3, who are much noisier than our one 6yo). We may have to force the issue if the strike goes on more than a day or two.
SIGH.
I am sympathetic with the workers' position, but what a f***ing mess it will be for the city.

I heard that on the news. I live in the midwest where we DRIVE everywhere----but my friend lives in Boston and has tried to enlighten me on public transportation---the good and bad.
I can't IMAGINE what a strike like that would do to NYC----it would basically cripple the entire city, wouldn't it? And right at the Holidays..................man---can you imagine all the business the stores will lose?
I hope all gets worked out and no strike happens!
Good luck and best wishes!

We too, live in a state where everyone drives their cars everywhere. We've traveled quite a bit and I've always been envious of the cities and countries that have efficient mass transit systems in place. I've never really considered the down side, though! Actually and now that I think of it, in London a few years ago, the Underground workers went on strike, but the bus lines were still operating so we just took those instead. Thankfully, the strike was very short-lived.
Sending good thoughts your way ...
I'm sorry that you're having to stress over this. Wouldn't it be nice if things could just always run smoothly for us?
I saw the national morning news today and they were talking about a storm approaching the east and what it would do to the roads in addition to the transit strike. Although they were talking about an ice storm maybe the schools will call a snow day/week and your dd won't have to go in at all. Don't they close the roads when they are iced over? How will the teachers and staff get to the school?
Hope that things work out okay without too many problems for you.
