?about periods!!

Hey! I guess since my daughter will be 13 in a few weeks, I will move on up to the teen boards(hesitantly!!) Like I said, my daughter will be 13 real soon- she has been going thru puberty since she was barely 9. I noticed one day at the beach when she was changing (at the age of 9) that she had begun getting pubic hair-and her waist was narrowing and so on. So, in the next couple of years she has continued to change...she has a very womanly figure...narrow waist, hips and her boobs (which, unfortunatly, won't be all that much anyways :)) have just come out of nowhere. So, all these things for so long, but no period. She does have discharge and just seems to have all the signs and signals, and has for some time, but like I said, not even a hint of a period coming on. I had a total hysterectomy in 1999 so I don't have any "supplies" around for myself, and she doesn't see me having a period or anything. Do you think that this may be why she hasn't had one? Like when roomates or close girlfriends spend alot of time together their periods become more synchronized? I don't want to rush her off to the DR. but Im just concerned with a family history of "female" problems maybe it might have something to do with it? Or am I just trying to jump the gun? Any help? Thanks, Stephanie

Gosh, I can't remember the exact order in which these changes occur, but I think your DD is right on track. The fact that you had a hysterectomy shouldn't have any impact on her period. This isn't the same as the roommate scenario. Anyhow, your DD should be getting her period soon. How soon, I don't know. Have you talked with her about it? If not, this is a good time to do so so that she doesn't freak out. By the way, you may want to get some supplies and keep them on hand.
Hugs,
Mily
I thought my DD would start hers much earlier than she actually did. She started developing about age 10 and started shaving under her arms in 5th grade! I started my first period at 10 and expected her to start early as well. But she didn't -- it was a couple months after her 12th birthday before she finally did.
It does sound like it will be soon for your DD, though so you might as well get prepared. You might want to take her to the drugstore and help her pick out supplies and enourage her to keep one or two pads in her backpack in case she starts at school. Anymore, pads are so thin and lightweight. Wish they had those when I was growing up, instead of those ol' mattress pad things.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much. My DD has a friend who is 14 and a dancer (she's been dancing since she was 3) who last I heard, hasn't started yet. I've heard several times that girls who are very athletic tend to be late starters. Could this be the case with your DD?
