Another Period Question

I was just hanging up some clothes in DD's room and noticed that once again, her bed sheets are stained from her period.
The poor girl has an unbelievably heavy flow! She's had her period for two years now, so it should have settled down somewhat, I think. Well maybe not, mine never did.
But anyway, I've bought her those extra-long, extra thick nighttime pads, had her wear two, side by side, reminded her to change pads as often as she could, etc. and she still leaks, spots and stains. She tried tampons -- once -- and soaked through in less than an hour. I remember picking her up one day from school and she had her sweatshirt tied around her waist because she had leaked all the way through to the back of her jeans -- and not just a little bit, there was a huge stain.
I've thought about taking her to the doctor, but is there anything that can be done for this, aside from putting her on birth control pills?
Does anybody have any btdt advice or suggestions?
Thanks!

med-wise, but it seems a good place to start.

Aw, that must be a pain in the butt!
I have a friend that had a similar problem, and her mom didn't want her on The Pill. There were several other options avalible, but my friend is taking something called Cyklokapron (had to have her spell that one out, LOL). If you google "Cyklokapron heavy periods" or something like that, you'll probably find information on it.
Good Luck!
I had this problem as a teen - very embarrassing and frustrating (I also had very bad cramps at this time). For me it didn't resolve until my first pregnancy. I wish I had talked to my mom about it, because maybe there would have been a resolution other than frequent changes and constant worry.
If you (or DD) is worried, I'd take her to a GYN - maybe just knowing it's NOT anything wrong will help her.
FWIW - there were several times that I slept with a towel on top of my sheets - they make al sorts of pads these days for kids/adults who wet beds - maybe that would help your DD with the nighttime problem - not the bleeding, but the staining of sheets and the embarrasment about that.

I had unbelievably heavy, cramping periods in high school too.
Thanks everyone,
I washed the sheets and when DD got home last night talked to her about her periods. She said she felt this one wasn't as heavy as they had been in the past, her pad just must have slipped at night.
I'll talk to her again in a couple months (or if there's a lot of spotted clothing next month!) see how it goes. She does take vitamins, but a pretty generic one so maybe I'll get her one with a little extra iron.
Thanks again,
J
Sorry to hear about your DD's problems.
I, too, have this problem, even after having a child. What I do that seems to really help is take a shower prior to going to bed. Not hot or cold, just warm. Then I braid my hair, but I don't blow dry it completely. I try to keep my body temperature a little lower. It slows the flow a little and allows me to sleep from around 10-6 without flowing over.
Since I have started doing this (about 2.5 years ago) I have only leaked on my sheets one time. A major improvement! I finally purchased nice sheets! I do still put old sheets on my bed when Aunt Flo comes to visit, but just as a precaution.
