But DS made his run in time yesterday!!! He made the time in at just about the last second, but he made it! When he got to the car yesterday, he sweaty little face was absolutely beaming. He couldn't have been more proud of himself, nor could I be. He is definitely working on this.

BTW, we never heard a peep from either the coach or the principal (whom we copied) in response to DH's letter asking for an explanation as to what had changed from 1st quarter to 2nd and why his grade went from an A to a C-D, as well the significant changes in his Effort and Citizenship marks.

DS has also committed to running with the Cross Country team 2x a week for the next three to make up the runs he missed so he can bring his PE grade back up for 2nd quarter report cards. If that doesn't show that coach that he's not a slacker, I don't know what will.

Good for your ds! I'm surprised you didn't hear back from the coach. My guess is that you'll see your ds's grade go up. He's really showing that he IS putting forth effort by running with the cc team.

Wow! That's REALLY impressive. I've never done well in gym. I've never seen someone put that much effort into gym. Sure, kids go to before and after school, or to tutoring to get help in other classes, but most think gym doesn't matter, even though getting a bad grade is annying to someone who usually gets A's. If he's going to commit out of school time to work on his weak spot that's impressive. I'm seriously sitting here grinning for him!

That is great Jules! I run a non-competitive fitness program for kids that gets them involved in just moving and trying some sports moves. I have to tell ya, when they improve something.... you really see it in their faces and eyes! It is so rewarding. Your son has a bright future if he has discovered this in himself... he CAN do the running! He CAN! Great!

Yay for your DS!!!

He sounds like he's taking charge of this - showing the coach he's serious, and getting fitter in the process!!

Yay!!!

Thank you for all your good wishes! The day DS brought home the deficiency, he also brought home a permission slip to run cross country to bring his grade up. The whole thing was completely his doing! DH and I weren't saying "you better bring that grade up, young man!" He decided right then he wasn't going to be happy with anything less than an A and took the steps to bring his grade back up.

Yesterday was the first cross country session. A bit sore afterward, but he said it was actually pretty fun and he might continue do it even after all his laps are made up! Huh. He said it was more fun than say, afterschool basketball or volleyball, because kids tend to only pass/hit the ball to their friends, whether or not they are 'open' and he doesn't get to handle the ball too much in either situation.

If he continues his M-W tennis and T-TH cross country, I don't think I'll be able to call him 'chubby' much longer!
