Speaking of thongs .....

Since there was such a long discussion about thong underwear on the "clothing and makeup" thread a little while back, I just had to share this cute story...
Our exchange student, K, was hanging out with dd and K's cousin (also an exchange student - I posted about her and her host family & church), J, last week when J was spending the night. I was in the library working on some photos and I heard dd say "OK, I'll ask - but you COULD ask her". She came into the room holding her sides and laughing. J & K were telling her that the only kind of underwear they - or their friends - wear in Germany are thongs. They have been reluctant to put them in the laundry because "Americans are strange about these things"!!!!! They wanted her to ask me to wash them - K & J's - because J refused to ask her host mom because she'd flip out. (J has a point here). I assured dd that a little thong action wouldn't be a problem with me and to get the laundry.
She came down with a basket with a t-shirt placed strategically over the thongs (I guess in case she ran into dh on the way downstairs) and I dutifully laundered them.
I thought the whole thing was pretty funny .... and I must confess that I wondered why K never had any panties in the wash!
J is spending the night again tonight and tomorrow ... I wonder what's next!

*That's too funny! Thongs have entered this house as well. Although dd insists that they are comfortable we call them "butt floss."

Since our German exchange student is a boy I'm only washing his boxers and socks and I've washed a few Tshirts.

I was involved in that makeup and clothes thread--had no good reason to allow thongs, but no good ones not to. DD beat me to the punch Friday night. She'd been to a friend's house and called me to her room. She's holding a pink lame' thong and saying "B's cousin bought them for her but they're too small. B said I can have them if it's okay with you."
After a moment of thought I gave in gracefully. I said "I don't think you need them but I'm not going to fight it right now. You can keep them as long as I NEVER see them under your clothes. I don't ever want to see them above your pants or through your clothes or anything. If I do--they're history."
We'll see. Maybe she'll get it out of her system and it won't be an issue anymore (crosses fingers).

Well, I kinda doubt it, but hope springs eternal. LOL. The previous thread made me question my dd14 why she likes thongs so much. She says they're "comfortable" but more to the point "everyone" wears them. As for the showing above the low rise jeans, dd tells me that girls are harder on each other about that than anyone else is. She told me her friend insulted another girl who was wearing her thongs pulled up so everyone could see them, in no uncertain terms telling her that she did not want to see her --s!
I found it interesting, though, that Europeans know so many of us Americans have this "hang up". IMO we have to question ourselves as to why we have such issues with thongs, and yet higher teenage pregnancy rates than they do. I think you were right in saying that they "scream sex" to us. But as Rose pointed out, so many "good girls" are having babies too...
