I know you're 'cautiously optimistic', but I think what you said sounds very positive - the fact that he's looking ahead and planning ahead is wonderful. And I know 3 pounds sounds somewhat trivial, but I'm sure he'll get there in time; not sure all bodies can bulk up on command like that - I'd guess their recommendations are statistically based and maybe he just runs a bit slower.

Sue, whose 84 year old dad has lost 30 pounds this year, who wasn't overweight to start with (I know how scary it feels, and being 300 miles away doesn't help!)

All the best to you and Jason, Pam. It sounds like he is on a good, positive path to full recovery.

Since he's working in a call center environment, won't he have regularly scheduled breaks and lunches? Maybe you could pack some snacks and a good lunch for him to take with him? That way, he wouldn't have any excuses to not eat, kwim?

How interesting that he changed his major. Do you suppose his experience with this illness influenced that decision?

Why is it that all the things that are exciting for our kids scare us half to death? The drivers' license for instance - they are all excited and inside we are cringing. Will he be taking his lunch to work? At least that way, he won't be apt to say I'm too busy to go out.

I hope it all goes well for him.

Hi Pam- I am so glad you posted an update about Jason- I've been wondering how he's been doing lately. I think its so fortunate that he's in treatment early into this illness-my brother didn't get treated till much later on in the progression and that was a shame. I hope Jason continues to do well. It is exciting to hear about Jason changing his major! My dd recently changed hers too- she has decided not to pursue teaching high school English anymore and instead prepare for teaching English Literature at the college level so she'll need to pursue her masters right after her bachelor's degree. I've had to miss the parents chat on Wednesdays due to working the last two wks but I plan to be online at next week's chat. Take care- Nancy
