Watch out bay area motorists!

This was his second attempt, so actually I was happy for him since I would hate to see him dissapointed again. Still, I've tried to make it clear that just because he has a driver's license doesn't mean necessarily he can drive. Yeah, right. Try telling that to a 17 yo boy who has waited so long to be "like his friends". He tells me he's proven himself to be responsible by refraining from drinking, smoking and drugs, unlike many of his friends. Well, I can't argue with that but there is still the matter of a little thing called "experience". Again, try explaining that to a teen!

So now I get to hear the old time honored phrase, "can I borrow the car?" a few times a day. And of course, we are going to look at a used car this weekend. Sigh. I'm sure there is a special place in heaven for parents of teens....

Oh I know what you mean. My DD got her license last Nov. so of course, right before you have to worry about winter driving here (at least you don't have to do that). We were lucky because it didn't snow that much last winter. Plus for the 1st 6 mos. after getting a license, they aren't allowed to drive w/ other kids in the car, which gave me another thing to have to nag her about. I know that she broke this rule a couple of times, but I never actually caught her. I was relieved when the 6 mos. passed. Now she has her own car and drives to school & everywhere else. I do get so nervous every time I read an article about kids who get in accidents due to speeding and general inexperience. I'm more worried about that than drunk driving cause I don't think she would be that stupid.

DS got his license in April after 3 tries. We got him a cheap car right after as I didnt want him driving mine and paying for insurance. I'll never forget the first time he went out with his buddy - it was completely nervewracking but he made it home safe and up until now, so far so good. This is his first year of winter driving though which terrifies me as he commutes on a highway 15 minutes to his job. We've had two major snowstorms where he's had to drive home at midnight - needless to say that was nailbiting for me but he's safe and sound. Dont know what to tell you other than at first its hard but it does get better. We have to let go sometime I guess!

I just looked at getting her license as one more way to discipline her - threaten to take it away (LOL). She would do just about anything to not have to show up at school with her momma driving her.
