Thanksgiving plans?

I was just curious about what everyone was doing for Thanksgiving this year? Also, do you have any unique traditions? What are you thankful for? And of course, what is your favorite dish?

This year, since my children are going to their father's house (I am divorced), I am going away to Colorado to visit my boyfriend's family. I leave on Wednesday and I am very excited. Unique traditions? Usually on Thanksgiving morning we go on a 5k walk that raises money to help homeless shelters. I am really thankful for my children's saftey and health this year, because each of them has nearly given me a heart attack and I am glad that they are okay. Well since I am all about carbs I would have to say that my favorite dish is mash potatoes. Especially since I only get homemade, authentic ones, that don't come out of the box as little flakes, once a year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My girls are also going to thier dad's this year. I think H and I will just have a small meal together and then head over to my sister's for dessert. I am kind of looking forward to the quiet.

Traditions: Well, we always donate a turkey and trimmings each year and on Thanksgiving day we go around the table and share what we're thankful for.

Thankful for: I am not in a great frame of mind for this, but I am thankful that we're all relatively healthy - not just my immediate family, but my entire family. Just when we think a tragedy has struck, I try to remember that it could be worse. My sister in law's back is out, but she's on the mend. I'm thankful that dd19 is coming home this weekend from college - I miss her so much. I'm thankful that my 17dd seems to be coming down from her manic period. I'm thankful that my H is beginning to recognize a few things. I'm thankful that my mom will be with us for Christmas this year. I'm thankful for my job, it's so close to home and flexible for my schedule. I'm thankful for my dogs - they bring me so much joy. I'm thankful for my friends, without them I'd truly be lost.

Favorite dish: I really love sweet potatoes; I'd say they were my favorite!

My DH and the girls eat at my MIL's house around 11:30 and then take plates of food to a couple of MIL's shut-in friends. Then we get to my mom's around 2:00 and eat again around 4:00 pm. We manage to waddle back home around 6:30 or 7:00. Up until a couple of years ago, we would just all veg out at night but now one or both of the girls may go to a movie on Thanksgiving night. Youngest DD has starting the Black Friday shopping with her b/f's mom and that's one thing I'm don't mind letting the b/f's mom do with DD. I must admit I'm usually quite jealous of this lady (major bad blood between us) but she loves this holiday shopping stuff and so does DD so I just let them have at it. That can be their thing and it's just fine with me, especially since her son usually eats Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with us!

My favorite food would have to be my momma's fried corn. Corn doesn't like my stomach so I don't eat it except on Thanksgiving and yes I pay for it but that's okay, since I don't go shopping the next day.

The best part this year will be that both my girls are coming home. This empty nest stuff is for the birds (turkeys hehe). Oldest will only be here from Wed to Sat but it'll hold me until Christmas!

With the exception of a very few years, we have spent nearly every Thanksgiving at Disneyland for the past 10 years. We don't have any family close by, and have not been especially successful at building friendships in our town of 8 years, so Disneyland has worked very well for our family. We eat at Goofy's Kitchen, where DH and I can enjoy a traditional holiday meal, our 12yo DS can eat all the pizza he wants, and our very picky 15yo can eat nothing but prime rib and bread rolls and I won't get frustrated because I didn't do the cooking. I am happy that everyone still looks forward to going -- even DH who is known as our resident 'fun sucker' and doesn't especially like Disneyland.

In the past month or so, I have tried to take a mental inventory of things I am thankful for each day. Kind of an attitude adjustment thing ...

After my visit to the dentist this morning, I am thankful for dental insurance. I am also thankful for my 12yo DS and his wicked sense of humor -- he makes me laugh nearly every single day. I am thankful that my 15yo DD choses to be a lady, even though it does not seem to be 'in vogue' anymore. I am thankful that my DH has a career that while demanding, does afford us the luxury of going to Disneyland nearly every year.

My favorite holiday food would have to be mashed potatoes -- even though I am not particular and eat just about everything! The last two years' Goofy's Kitchen has served an assortment of roasted veggies, a dish that is rapidly moving to the top of my favorite foods list, however.
