DD15 has a chance to go on two really exciting trips - one with school and one with Temple. Her Jazz Band Director wants to take them to a HS Jazz Comptetition in Boston, and our Temple Youth Group is going to Washington DC for a "Social Action Weekend". Of course, DH and I think both sound like fun and great opportunities. My DD's response? Jazz Band - well let me see if any of my friends are going; Washington - well, yeah, I sorta have to, unless A's Sweet 16 is that weekend.
LOL, love that teen way of thinking!
I understand that at 15, no matter how mature we think she is, her friends are the most important considerations. But it's hard as a mom to think she might pass on these trips! And my DH does not understand the importance of the BFFLs - partly because he's a boy and bonded differently than she does, and partly because he's a more solitary person than she is.

Those really do sound like great trips! I know my own DD rarely passes up an opportunity to be away from home (especially without her parents along) and she would be hard pressed to have to choose between a Sweet 16 Party and a weekend away. I think DD is one of the first in line to sign up for that school trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the fall -- even not knowing anyone else on the trip!
Are these trips anytime soon? Let us know if she goes and if she has fun.
Washington trip is early Feb and the Jazz trip is mid March. I think we'll have to decide on both, and pay or put down deposits, soon.
I'm impressed that L has developed the ability to do this - she used to be such a homebody, and hated sleeping away from home (those elementary school sleepover parties were torture!).
