Another Step Forward

My last post was titled "two steps forward and a giant step back". Yesterday I got a late Christmas/early New Year present. As we were driving to a store, dd15 now, asked me what you call the people that help troubled kids, because that is what she is thinking she might like to do as a career. We determined she was talking about a social worker. (insert swell of pride here) In a little state of shock, I told her that was a noble choice, but "I thought you wanted to be a fashion designer?" We laughed as she guessed maybe she'd be a fashion designer/social worker? Or perhaps a socially conscious fashion designer...LOL.

It just made me realize that, as I'd felt during my prayers during these difficult times, that this was all happening for a reason, that perhaps all of these things were shaping the person dd is to someday become. I know we're not done yet, shaping her, that is, and we may still have some rocky times ahead (something tells me) but I'm encouraged that dd is a person who has a heart for hurting people, and wants to help them. For a mom, what could be better than that?

Welcome, 2007, I think I'm ready for ya!

She may actually want to be a clinical psychologist instead. Check into it for her.

It's great that she is thinking of a career at such a young age and to want to help others. My 15 year old just wants to finish high school for a start. Thats all I want right now too. She stopped going for a while in September because she said she just couldn't do school. Took a lot of patience, work and determination to get her back. (new school program and meds) I can't wait to see the light at the end of the tunnel with my daughter. She is very ADD, laid back, occasionally smokes pot and is a bit lazy. Loves to sleep and eat junk food. She is a very sweet kid though with a kind heart. Lately she has been surprising me with apologies and nice conversations which she would have never given just 6 months ago. Just that little step makes me happy. Maybe 2007 won't be such a bad year. 2006 was sure trying.
