DS1 was still in News Orleans with GF's family. DS2 was out with GF and another couple. DH and I had a few Magaritas and made DS3 leave his games long enough to watch the ball drop and pull the strings on those party popper things which shoot out colored paper with a bang(which terrorized our big brave German Shepherd)
DH has Season 3 of 24 and wants to marathon it before the new season starts. We made it through two episodes-sort of......don't ask me to recant
No traditions unless you count Magaritas and the loud poppers!
Last night we broke with tradition - both of our teens spent the night at a friend's house leaving us alone with ds10. Kind of makes me sad because now that his brother and sister are teens and spending so much time with friends - it's like he's an "only child" or something. Guess that's what happens when there is a 4 year age gap. Next year maybe we'll have a little party for a couple of his best friends - something we also never did before, but I guess there really are some people out there who don't have to spent new year's eve with their young ones.
We made the best of it, though - ds and I went to see A Night at the Museum (a real family movie I highly recommend), then all three of us went out to a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant (one good thing - much cheaper for 3 than for 5!), then home to watch a DVD (Pirates of the Carribean II) and ring in the New Year with Dick Clark (and for us it's a three hour time difference but oh, well). I actually went to sleep at 2 am so it was a long one for me, AND ds10 goes back to school - tomorrow.
DS1 stayed at his house and watched TV with friends. DS2 went to a sober-party at a church, DD went to a girl friends house for dinner, fancy desserts and she brought her "smore maker" kit. Then they put on their bikinis and played in the snow and took pictures. hmmm... SHE thought it was hilarious and actually showed me the pictures. All innocent fun I guess. It was just the two of them. She is making this old fart age rapidly... Sigh... At least she can have fun without drugs and alcohol so what can I say? The queen and I went out to dinner and a movie. "The Good Shepard" which was painfully dull and long. Not at all what I expected. We were home well before midnight. DD went to work today. Called me in tears. She had her first fender-bender. It snowed heavily yesterday and the roads were terrible. So...that was how we brought in 2007. Ugh.
I recall a post of yours about your boys in a musical. How did that turn out? How is Jason coming along?
Happy New Year to you too! I hope 2007 is a much less stressful year for you.
NYE is not a holiday I especially enjoy or feel the need to go out of my way for, so we were all here at home.
I made a bunch of snacks during the day and then also cooked a nice dinner and we were all so full from dinner that I didn't even bother to put the snacks out. I'll do it later today so I won't have to cook!
DD was rather gloomy as she didn't have any plans and was stuck at home with her boring family. She has been PLENTY busy of late with all sorts of parties and stuff that it sure was fine with me not to be driving her anywhere on NYE. Pretty selfish, huh? DS is too young to care about it beyond the fact he gets to stay up until midnight without me complaining.
We played a game of Scrabble (I won), watched a movie on DVD then watched the countdown from Las Vegas and made a sparkling cider toast. Shortly thereafter, we all went to bed -- except DD. She stayed up doing ??? and was still a bit glum this morning. She went for a long ride on her horse this morning with DH and will hopefully come home in better spirits.
DD and DS go back to school tomorrow (DD has homework still to do!) and DH will head to Japan for business on Sunday. And so 2007 begins!
We saw 'Museum' last week and we all loved it! I am not at all a Ben Stiller fan but I thought this move was really great for everyone. I loved the line by Andy Roony "Are you crackin' wise?" That just cracked me up!
Happy new year all! Nothing worth speaking of here... we were sound asleep by 9:30 or so. Justin and Zack were playing a new video game over a few beers last I knew - both of them are short on cash at the moment. Nicki and Tim went to a party at his friend's house, she was home by 12:30, but I'm not sure if she made the 12:15 curfew we gave her... all I know is that when I got up at 12:30 to use the bathroom, she was home.
We really don't have any New Year's traditions now - when the kids were little we used to let them stay up long enough to see the ball drop in NYC - 11 here, and then they'd go off to bed. We quit going out years ago, first because it was too hard to find a babysitter on NY Eve, then coz we don't really care for the crowds. Rose
Yeah..DD is fine. She actually thanked me for not "freaking out." lol.. I am not really a freak out kind of guy, so I don't really know where this comes from. She "bumped" a parked car in the mall parking lot where she works. She called me in tears, told me she left a note on the windshield with our name and phone number, took pictures of where she bumped it with her cell phone, but also said she couldn't see any damage because the car was very old rusty and dirty. I was glad she did the right thing. We received no phone call yet. Maybe she dodged a bullet here... Who knows..
So.... at the end of "Good Shepard", who instigated the "incident" with the girl? The Russian? or Mr. Wilson? I was so tired by then I wasn't following well.

Thanks for asking, daddioe.

We saw 'Good Shepard' last week too -- it was a movie week -- and I agree, it was rather dull and I expected so much more from it.
DD said it was the first movie she's seen in which the main character didn't speak!
Sorry about your DD's fender bender. Is she okay?

I hope and pray Jason continues to progress.
And good that he's excited about returning to school.
