Stitches and a Prom Dress

Reagan's accessory to prom, 11 stitches above her eye. Yesterday Reagan and her boyfriend went surfing, which is nothing out of the ordinary. She has been surfing for about 4 years and has managed to avoid any real injuries up until now. So yesterday afternoon while I was cleaning up around the house I recieved a phone call from her boyfriend, which I knew wasn't a good sign because it only occurs when something bad happens. He asks me how I am doing and makes small talk before telling me that they are on their way to the emergency room because Reagan's surfboard came from underneath her and hit her straight in the head. He reassured me that she will be fine but the gash was pretty deep and she needed stitches.

Thankfully she doesn't have a concussion and feels fine except for a small headache. Unfortunately, her prom is this weekend and all of her prom pictures will show a beautiful set of stitches. This is so typical of my daughter too because she always manages to get hurt before some event.

Do any of you have an interesting accident stories that happened to you or family before something big? For example, we had to postpone Bradford's senior picture session (aftering having the date set for 2 months) because he got a black eye 4 days earlier from goofing around with his friends.

This could be interesting.

My dd has always been particularly clumsy. It may have to do with her being nearsighted and, until I got her contact lenses, refusing to wear glasses because she hated how they looked on her (lol!!).

She dances competitively and I remember one year just a week before a major competition she was coming home from school, leaping and bounding up the veranda steps when she miscalculated on the last one and went face first on to the concrete!!! She split open her bottom lip and they had to put a couple of small stitches on it. (BTW with NO anaesthetic!!!) Well her lip was so swollen she looked like she had been in a prize fight and she only had one week until we had to go to this dance competition and she would have to be on stage and wear lipstick and smile and the whole thing. With a huge swollen lip smiling HURT!!! And how do you apply lipstick around stitches!

Luckily the swelling went down enough within the week that it wasn't so bad after all.

Another time, also around dance competition season, she broke out in a mysterious skin condition called pityriasis. It started with one small area but then quickly spread to cover her entire legs, her arms, her abdomen and her back. It lasted almost 3 months. Besides looking terrible as there were large clusters of red spots, it was also very itchy and only cool baths and Gold Bond lotion helped. And dance costumes, as you know, are quite revealing showing her back, her tummy, etc. Luckily that year her legs were covered with tights but you could still see the red spots if you looked closely. She had to endure alot of "ewwwwww's" from people who thought her condition might be contagious!!! (It wasn't.)

But if you ever have the urge, it is so easy to photoshop the stitches out of the picture, LOL! Glad she is ok.
