I must have a screw loose.
This is DD's third (and, thankfully, last) prom.
My contributions:
- dress, accessories.......$189.50
- prom bid......................$ 52.00 (her portion only)
- tailor............................$ 26.00 (dress alterations)
- hair do.........................$60.00
- manicure/pedicure.......$60.00
DD's contributions:
- weekend cottage with friends.....$175
- food contribution...........................$20

My DD was lucky because the senior dues raised a lot of money for the prom and it ended up that their tickets were $7.00, which includes a dinner. So far, her dress ($240) is on my credit card. Let's see who ends up paying for that. I had to spend $120 on alterations since she takes after me in the height dept. The shoes, etc., hairstyle, limo ($75 PP), she is paying for.
I can't want to see this limo--it's a Hummer that fits 22 people. She showed me a picture on line and it has a floor that has disco lights, and other really tacky accessories. Of course, from the house where there are all meeting to the restaurant where the prom is being held, it's less than a 10 miles ride, so this company is really making a killing. I know the driver has to sit there in the parking lot all night, but still... She said they should make him drive all over Boston for the amount of money they are paying. This is the first prom in an outside place, since they have the junior prom in the caf.
The senior dues also paid for a barbecue last night at the school and last week they had a harbor cruise, so they are really having a fun time. I wish I could go back to school.
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with this kind of expense for a few hours. I was just informed by DD that she's getting around via limo too. She's paying for it (gee whiz, what a girl....it's only $30 per person!)
Tonight is the prom, finally! Last night I asked DD if she was excited. She said yes, but I'm stressed too. She said "i have spent so much money. I wonder if it's worth it." Probably not. The expectations are always too high that this is going to be the perfect night. I just hope they have fun.
Of course, the additional expense is that she is going away w/ friend for the weekend. Yesterday they went to a warehouse store and bought food. At least that's more sensible than planning to eat out every meal. Well, graduation is next week, so maybe she will get some $$ gifts. I just hope this inspires her to start looking for a job next week.
