You go Doug!
Don't you just wonder where they get these coaches sometimes? What the heck is he thinking? This is one of the reasons that bullying is a problem in schools, with teachers or coaches like that teaching the kids how to bully. And that is exactly what it was!
I'm glad Doug couldn't keep his mouth shut on this one, it is important. Great letter!
I'm sorry about Jake losing the season, hopefully he will be able to be there to cheer his team on though. Give him extra hugs.
Let us know what happens with that coach, if anything. I sure hope they don't just ignore the letter from Doug.
Hey guys :)
I totally understand your frustration with that coach and there are way too many like him out there setting bad examples. DS18 played soccer and I think just about every coach he had viewed me as a coddling, helicopter parent cuz I was so concerned about the boys' (any on the team) playing while injured.
My biggest worries were about them playing after a concussion. Rarely were the boys properly evaluated after a head injury, and many went back in the game risking permanent neurological damage, or even death if a second concussion were to occur before they were fully healed from the first. About six months ago some ex-pro football player, who is now permanently damaged, spoke out about this and likely got through to a good number of coaches. But I'm sure there are some out there who ignore the risks and continue to put players back in the game too quickly after a head injury.
We parents DO need to speak up. Glad Doug did for your son, and I'm glad he received the support he did from the other coach. Best wishes for a smooth recovery for your son.

I'm posting late on the subject, but just wanted to give you and you dh a "thumbs up" for addressing the issue head on. I'm glad you received a response you were satisfied with!
Best wishes,
Amelia
<such a good game and playing injured>>
Huh?
Same message, different delivery IMO
Thanks Sue, I was glad Doug could write a calm but strong letter....ma ma bear might not have made my point as well, cause I like you HATE when they glorify injury's like it makes a person better or stronger!!
