I guess you could report it to the police and maybe have that friend give them a statement of what she knows. I'm not sure the police will do too much about it. Ipods seems to get stolen all the time. My DS13 has had 2 stolen already--one at school and one in a parking garage. He just got a new one--after swearing to us that he would be careful and not take it all over the place with him. But last night he went to some haunted house thing w/ a group of friends. I asked him before he left if he had his iPod because I didn't want him taking it there--it would be dark & crowded and there really was no need for it. He told me it was at home in his room. Of course I checked and it was nowhere to be found. When he got home, he admitted he had taken it with him (i.e., he lied right to my face!),so I took it away from him for 24 hours. I don't know how many iPods he has to have stolen before he figures this stuff out.

Trevor had his stolen when he was in high school. School parking lot and Im guessing he didnt lock the door as there was no car damage

They found who did it and, instead of prosecuting, did some mediation thing where the family, who was quite poor, agreed to pay 40 dollars. I was all for this because Trevor can be quite intolerant and lack empathy and he really seemed to feel for this kid. Well, the kid didnt follow though and there is no recourse in mediation. So, we got no money, the kid got no punishment, and Trevor learned a lesson about empathy but not the one I was hoping for. Now, supposedly the police dept has the Ipod but not the accessories but there is some major snafu getting it back(Trevor is a college sophomore now so yea, its been THAT long-absurd)

So be aware of mediation

As much as we tell our DD that it is her responsibility to safe-guard her things, there is always someone who is more deceitful than she is careful.

I would report it, as even if they don't get it back, it may teach a lesson to this girl.

My DD would lock her car but she would leave things in plain sight, like leaving the Ipod visible because it was plugged in w/ the car adapter.
