I have to admit - I love Halloween!! So far, both of my kids love it too!! L is a witch - all in black, fishnets(over regular tights), and a witch hat. She made Halloween cupcakes to bring to school - yummy.

S is going to be Harry Potter for school (they're supposed to be book characters) and then (I think) a skeleton/ghoul for tonight. He changed his mind at the last minute - but likes to build from stuff we have in the house, so we'll see what he ends up with.

I'm going to work in costume - but have to be able to change quickly for mid-day meetings. I'm a Dementor (from the HP books) - they suck the joy out of everything - that's a natural for me!! lol

Then tonight - taking S and three of his friends around the neighborhood - can't wait!!

What's up in your house today? Any ghoulish fun?
Sue, mom to Leah and Seth

I like Halloween as much as the next person, but it isn't my favorite holiday. (That's Valentine's Day.) My DD15 is invited to a party--she just realized this Monday that she needed a costume, so it was a thrill going to the party store two days before Halloween and trying to pick whatever was left! She is going to be a medieval queen. My DS13 is going to wear a gangster costume from a play he was in last spring. He is going to a friend's house to go trick-or-treating w/ a group of kids. So in-between driving around, dropping them off and picking them up, I will be home alone handing out candy to the few trick-or-treaters we will get here! Halloween was more fun for me when they were little!

It is said that on Halloween, the veil between the living and the dead is very thin. I have to admit that I woke up this morning with an ancestral song going through my head and I was reflecting on all the family members and friends that have died. Keep in mind, this was not a bad thing at all - in fact, it was a very close feeling that I was able to experience with my family members who have passed on.

As for my kids, neither one is dressing up in costume today. They are too old, IMHO, to go trick or treating, but we will be at home this evening to give out candy to others who may come to our door.

I will admit that Halloween is a very special holiday for me and mine. We do so LOVE Halloween and yes, we all dress up still! I am usually a witch of some sort. H is usually a ghoul or something funny, and both dd's dress up, even if they aren't going out. We dress up for the trick or treaters now or if we're going to a party.

Each year, we sit outside with a campfire so the trick or treaters can come round to collect their treats. We know all our neighbors and they are finally used to us! Haha. We have lighted jack o lanterns that lead to the side of the house to the campfire and the kids love walking around - it's kind of spooky I guess.

So, adding to Amelia's post,

DH and I will be handing out candy while ds15 is at their last day of swim practice for the season, and then one family has invited the team over for a pasta dinner.

Hearts,

I LOVE your tradition as you describe it! I think I'll try to start something similar with my family.

Thanks!
