Did You Read The Restless Virgins?

I had to read this book about the secret life of teens called the Restless Virgins for my work.

I have never heard of this book and I'm not sure I would want to read it. To answer your question though, no it isn't just a fringe group that is involved in all of this. There are a huge number of high school students that are involved in any of these things.
Sex is not uncommon at all and there are not a lot of kids that have long standing relationships that aren't having sex. Yes there are some, but the majority of kids that have been going out for a number of months are having sex.
Drinking is pretty popular in our high school. My dd and most of her friends don't drink, but there are some of them that do. Luckily they are not the ones that are closest to her.
Drugs are not as prevelant as drinking, but it goes on plenty. I'm pretty sure that if my kids wanted to get drugs they wouldn't have a very hard time finding some.
One of the really unfortunate things is that these activities seem to be starting younger and younger. There are kids in our middle schools that are having sex and oral sex is a big problem. We have had kids caught during school in our middle school having oral sex in the school. I know it is hard to believe, but it is true. When I was that age I didn't have a clue what oral sex was.
Yes, I hate to say it, these things are going on all around us. The best thing we can do is talk to our kids and keep open communication with them.
Well, first off, not ALL boys are like that. If your girls keep an ear open at school they will quickly find out who the good guys are and who the 'out for sex jerks' are.
Unfortunately, a lot of what you describe is common place in a lot of schools, and just because your DDs aren't doing it doesn't mean they don't know about it.
Same thing around here in our relatively small town.
Alcohol and pot are very common here. The high school where we used to live seemed to have more prescription drug use.
I know parents whose kids havent had sex get freaked at some of us who are somewhat cavalier about our kids who ARE having sex but I feel like "Hey, at least they are involved in a relationship!" That isn't so bad when you see what else is going on out there.
I would have a very hard time with a DD performing oral sex on groups of boys. Forget the mom part since I am not a mom to a DD and have no clue. It pisses me off as a woman!!! Past generations worked so hard to get equal rights for women; these girls have so many more options than I had-such an easier go of it career wise. And they want to spend their time on their knees to be popular with some cute guy. Ughhhhh! Gloria Steinham ought to grab a few and knock their heads together!
I don't think this is something a lot of girls engage in, though. No question it is happening but I think it pales in comparison number wise to the alcohol, etc
