I guess this is why my house isn't considered the "fun"house, but there is no way I would allow my kids' friends to come here and get on my computer! It's just too risky. They are too good at shrinking things fast and not leaving a trail. Plus, I wouldn't want them nosing around in my business, even inadvertently.

Trev's friends are invariably on my computer at home checking their My Spaces.

When Kelsie's friends are here they will take a look at their My Space, but there are only a few that do it and they aren't on for long. Since we got the laptop though they have used that rather than my computer. I don't mind if they check, it more depends on who is using the computer and how long they are using it for.

I think if it is bugging you, you can tell the kids that the computer is off limits. They all have computers and can check things out when they get home. I don't understand this whole thing with checking so often. I don't ask my friends to check my e-mails when I am with them. I guess it is just another one of those teen things I just don't get.

Never had that problem cuz friends were rarely at our home. But I did have a problem with garbage on the computer (malware, viruses) from sites DS visited. Whether the source was myspace or not, I don't know. I think his downloading music was the bigger problem. But I'd keep a close watch if I were you, and make sure you scan for spyware and viruses regularly. I never had a myspace or facebook acct myself cuz I've read about the risks, and don't want the hassle of cleaning up my computer after an attack.

I am never sure what kind of supervision to provide with teens in my home. I think you ask a very good question in general. They are old enough TO babysit and not need to be babysat.

But.....when it's time for my 5pm walk, do I go-I walk a slow 2 miles? If I'm making dinner and realize I need a can of tomato sauce, cant I run to the store?

I would never knowingly allow alcohol or the kids disappearing at night but how many times did DS2 and M sneak out at night during sleepovers before we caught them?

It's tough.

I stopped the sleepovers back when I discovered the sneak out for ds2. I know I cant stay awake all night and, despite having 3 dogs!!!!, we were unable to detect them leaving or returning.

That was my comfort level choice

You will have to make a comfort level choice on this issue.

I personally wouldn't expect a parent to monitor my child's computer usage while he was at their home.

The way I look at it is this...if the parent's feel their kids are old enough to simply be dropped off, or come over on the school bus etc...without their speaking to me directly first....then I am no longer obligated to babysit them. That said, I do always assure parents their kids will be safe here. Kids will be kids, especially teens, and they will always find a way. My kids all have their own computers...but they prefer to use mine, because, its in the main area of the house (open floor plan)...they won't miss out on anything else that may be going on here and have access to the fridge.

Just so you know, changing backrounds and songs is half the fun of mySpace...for them, I mean...I would really have no interest, but I know there's lot of adults and parents out there who love their mySpaces.
